Tottenham could agree a deal with Benfica for Haris Seferovic, transfer suits both parties

|

According to Record and TVI24 (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham are interested in signing Haris Seferovic on loan from Benfica and could include an obligation to buy in the deal. The 28-year-old is coming off the back of a medicore campaign in terms of goal output, but he’s a target man who would improve our attack and may be content playing second fiddle to Harry Kane.

Permanent deal can wait

Record say we’re only looking to loan Seferovic this season and will make a decision on a permanent deal next summer. We want a loan-to-buy, likely because the Swiss international has been inconsistent at Benfica, so it will be up to Seferovic to earn himself a permanent deal.

Since joining on a free transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2017, the 28-year-old made 126 appearances in all competitions for Benfica, scoring 43 goals with 16 assists. He’s been inconsistent with goals season-to-season, however, so it remains to be seen how he’d fare in the Premier League.

What will Seferovic bring to our squad?

As per WhoScored, the Swiss international amassed 1429 minutes in Liga NOS last season, created 18 chances, made 3/9 successful dribbles, won 27/61 aerial duels, completed 71.4% of his 283 passes, had 46 shots with 14 hitting the target (30%), made eight clearances, won nine free-kicks and made seven tackles.

Seferovic is not prolific, doesn’t possess a lot of pace and isn’t too dominant in the air, but he’s a technical player who can hold up the ball and lead the line. We’ve been linked with Danny Ings, Loren Moron, Wout Weghorst, Carlos Vinicius, Callum Wilson, Troy Deeney, Vedat Muriqi, Patrik Schick, Arkadiusz Milik, Robin Quaison, Rhian Brewster, Habib Diallo, Josh King, Ollie Watkins, Alexander Sørloth, Bas Dost, Christian Benteke, Willian Jose and Mario Mandzukic, but Seferovic isn’t terrible.
