Are Napoli using Everton to get Tottenham to sign Arkadiusz Milik before the transfer window shuts?

|

According to Calciomercato, Napoli have contacted Everton to offer them Arkadiusz Milik despite Tottenham holding talks over a deal for the 26-year-old. There’s reason to believe Napoli are trying to get us to lodge an official bid, however, as Calciomercato say discussions between us and Napoli haven’t progressed in the last 48 hours.

Milik is expected to leave Napoli this summer

The Polish international has made 122 appearances in all competitions since joining Napoli from Ajax in 2016, scoring 48 goals with five assists, but he may have played his final game at the Stadio San Paolo. Milik has scored just two Serie A goals since February and is now in the last year of his deal, so his future looks away from Napoli.

Gli Azzurri will want to cash in on Milik while he still has value, so they’re looking to sell the striker before the transfer window shuts on October 5. This gives us 10 days to get a deal over the line but things are still at an early stage. The 26-year-old scored 14 goals in all competitions last season, but managed only two in his last 17 games.

Milik finds himself behind Victor Osimhen, Dries Mertens and Andrea Petagna in the pecking order, so he’s unlikely to get his place back in the side this season. This is good news for our alleged pursuit.

Tottenham won’t fall for Everton bluff

If Napoli thought Everton being linked with Milik would make us move faster to procure his signature, they don’t know Tottenham. We won’t be rushed, but it’s pretty clear Everton aren’t going to sign him either. The Toffees have Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Moise Kean at their disposal. Cenk Tosun and Sandro Ramirez have been pictured training with the first-team too, so Carlo Ancelotti has more than enough in attack.

We need a centre-forward to take the scoring burden off Harry Kane and have been linked with Haris Seferovic, Danny Ings, Loren Moron, Wout Weghorst, Carlos Vinicius, Callum Wilson, Troy Deeney, Vedat Muriqi, Patrik Schick, Robin Quaison, Rhian Brewster, Habib Diallo, Josh King, Ollie Watkins, Alexander Sørloth, Bas Dost, Christian Benteke, Willian Jose and Mario Mandzukic, but it may be Milik who we eventually sign.

In other news, why can Wolves sign Nelson Semedo but Tottenham only manage to get Matt Doherty?
