Spurs Go Into The Unknown, But It Could Be A Blessing

|

I’m not sure who it was who came up with the term “known unknowns” but it’s very definitely where football and Tottenham Hotspur are at, at the moment.

Writer: Jod

We have cancelled matches across Europe with no clue whether or not they will eventually be played. We have talk of the Euros being moved to next year but aren’t sure whether that will actually happen. Even without the public health problems, we don’t even know whether fourth or fifth will be needed for the Champions League.

The strange thing is from our perspective, the situation was already so bad it couldn’t get much worse. Depending on how it plays out the situation could actually work in our favour.

Does The Break Suit Spurs?

Yes, Get Everyone Fit & Drilled

No, Other Clubs Will Do The Same So We Don't Really Gain

Ideally, we want a nice long delay before football resumes with the Euros moved so that the various leagues can finish their seasons in the summer. This would have a number of pluses for us. First, of course, we would have time to get players fit. How different would the remainder of the season be if Kane and Son were available?

Second, it would give Jose a period to work full time with the players on the training ground. There’s a difference between a manager telling the players what he wants and drilling it into them with practice after practice. It’s hard to to get enough training in when you are playing twice a week, it’s dead easy if you aren’t playing at all. If the Euros are moved there’s a further bonus.

The World Cup really hurt us with players starting the season already tired from having no summer break. If we have no summer tournament we have the possibility of starting with an injury-free, fresh squad next season which would make a nice change.

Of course, like everyone else, the club would take much less of a financial hit if the season was eventually finished. In our case there are also the various events that may or may not take place at the stadium. So we want a break that lets us get our players fit, but still lets us stage as many of the concerts etc as possible, not sure how long that would be.

I’m also not sure how significant the loss of income would actually be. If every club ends up losing money this season then every club will have less to spend on players, the laws of supply and demand say that will mean prices go down. Theoretically, the financial impact may not be that great. Its all ifs, buts and maybes.

But we could end up looking back on this strangest of seasons and think we got out of jail.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

To right there BS, and I do believe the FA/PL/EFL are more concerned about the economics/cash/dosh than peoples lives as a whole. Still COYS 4 ever

Just a small note to my last post… When we sold Bale to R Madrid for £86m… they paid cash, and sold Ozil to Arsenal same day for £42m… So same again I expect. Which makes HK10 transfer more worrying for spurs fans.. as Levy loves to get a good deal, Jose gets 2 quality player (hopefully !) HK10 gets his transfer to a club that wins trophies 🙁

Not that I am being negative, just realistic based on recent events over 2yrs at WHL…….

PY, etc – hope all keeping well and their loved one’s, etc too!

Just saw this article – been busy on LSE site regarding stock market – keeping my eyes peeled looking for a good investment just like my Spur’s one LOL (I think I can say that now as am in comfortable profit as I’ve stated on here before – VIVA SPURS CARALLO!).

Tommorow we find out what’s what with regards to Prem and Spurs, etc. Hope whatever the decision is we can benefit fully from it – in terms of injury we’re already benefitting – long may the benefits continue for our beloved Spur’s.

Personally a re-set sounds fine to me, hard feelings for Liverpool and the potentially promoted sides but technically it was all to play for in terms of European qualification and relegation for example in the Prem and would not be fair to have it done based on current standings so only a reset would truly be fair IMHO – of course that helps us entirely – FUKIN LUV IT LOL!

  • El Jefe says:

I notice HT and Frank have not been on recently – hope they are OK and the feeling extends to all fellow YIDS on here – PY, TQ, ND, LT, B108, JOD, etc, etc, etc!

Roll on tomorrow and what it heralds – it’s only a game after all lol – much more important things at stake now – people’s health/lives and financial well being also – GOD WILLING We (the World) can come out of it ASAP and in decent shape – AMEN!

  • El Jefe says:

P.S. On HK10 think he will stay another year atleast and see what JM can do – I hope so anyway if not want £200-250m for him – hope Levy is seeing this, agrees and duly delivers if needs be in terms of HK10 wanting out!

EJ….am still here mate, I click on everyday to have a peek, but not seeing much thus no posts from me, my wife and I are doing well, keeping everything strict, thanks for the wishes. Still COYS 4 ever.

I thought this was worth posting.

Jose came under a lot of criticism recently, when he called out NDombele publicly. Here is what his ex-player Joe Cole had to say about that, having himself been on the receiving end of public criticism from Mourinho in the past (first over his lack of desire to defend, and then over showboating):

“When it happened to me it was not a problem. It is a grown up’s sport. If you don’t play well or you don’t do what you are supposed to do, whether you expect to get criticised publicly or not, you need to be tough, you need to understand the nature of the beast.

He is a young man, the right response is to knuckle down and perform. I saw the performance in question and if he was one of my players that would have been my stance on it.

Whether or not I did it publicly, that is always the discussion to have with your coaching staff, what’s the benefit? For the young lad, this is football, it can be a tough, brutal sport at time. You’re in the limelight, but we are very lucky to do what we have to do so you have to take the rough with the smooth.

Jose will know what he is doing, he will know what the lad’s character is. He will expect the lad to react, turn his time at Tottenham around, kick-start his career or he will expect for the lad to move on. It will be nothing personal but certain jobs have to be done on the pitch. Hopefully the lad can do that.

At times that treatment worked on me. He gets the best out of a lot of players, that is why he has won multiple trophies at multiple clubs across Europe. He knows about managing people. He knows when to whip the horse and when to not and that is management.

Jose has gone into a difficult situation,. In the media in particular there is a lot of anti-Jose, people who are very quick to jump on Jose’s back, especially for someone who has been as successful as him. You need to look at the job in perspective.

I think it had run its course under Pochettino. I think the team wasn’t playing well, it needed a change. But it’s like turning a cruise ship, you can’t just turn it on a sixpence, it takes time. He needs time, he needs to bring the right players in.

I think the relationship with Daniel Levy is important, if Levy gets him the players he wants and gives him time I think it will be a success for him. It’s just how every time Spurs lose a game… Spurs were losing games under Pochettino, players weren’t playing well.

I think some of the players may have run their course at Tottenham. They are all great players but sometimes your time is up. They are in a rebuild situation.”

    Interesting perspective.

I see the season has been put back until 30 April now, problems mounting, health first though.

EJ…forgot in my earlier post, sorry, all the best for yourself and family, and that’s to all my fellow Yids also.

BS…thanks for that, quite an interesting read, a bit like when I was a boss/leader you have to know your people and how to deal with them, publicly or in private, sometimes works and sometimes not, simple as that. Still COYS 4 ever.

  • El Jefe says:

PY no worries mate, thanks for the message and all the best!

  • Niall D says:

EJ thanks for the shout out all OK this end hope all is well with you and our fellow Spurs followers.
I live very rural so have had very little effect on the CV front you can get loads of toilet roll in our local shop. Lol. On the HK 10 front it seems many are resigned to him leaving. I’m not so sure. However if he, we’re to go who would we buy to replace him. I think we could get two decent CF’s for the money.
Here’s my list. Richarlson was named in an earlier post (maybe by EJ) good replacement. Drinkwater has, had a good season. Timo Verner played well against us and should be robust enough for Premier league. Mousa Dembele has played English football before so has a track record. Just a few names to whet the apatite. Who would you sign if the worst was to happen.

  • El Jefe says:

Hi ND no worries – glad all is well – forgot to specifically mention Stan R the other day aswell – sorry mate – hope all is well with you and your family.

I did mention Richarlison back in October/November and since then he’s had a great rest of season – but I wanted him as a winger forward type but seeing as he is now supposedly coveted by Barca and rated at over 100m Euros would leave him alone to be honest – plus we’ve now bought in Bergwijn and have him and Sonny on the left not to mention Lucas and Lamela on the right.

Wouldn’t mind Willian on a free – if it happened would be happy with it – even Giroud again on a free as a like for like replacement for Llorente.

Werner I like a lot especially for less than £50m as has been touted in the media that he has such a release clause possibly £48m – BARGAIN – we should be all over it – HK10 going or not!

Vinicius Junior at Benfica is another of interest but they supposedly rejected an offer from the Prem in January of 55m Euros so would likely be expensive. Still only 24, big and tall and scores a lot of goals!

Like I said earlier on this thread though don’t think HK10 will leave to be honest – not this summer and respecting that I don’t think we’ll be spending big to find cover – we’ll be lucky and have to content ourselves if we do indeed bring someone else in – hence my picking GIroud because will be on a free although Werner would be ideal aswell and he can also play on the wing!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Hi EJ, all good with me so far, hope everyone else is staying safe.

You’re lucky Niall, I was down to my last toilet roll having not been able to find any in over a week! lol
I have a very large Sainsburys only around half a mile away, I went in at 8pm on Wednesday and the place looked like it had been visited by a plague of locusts! There were absolutely no basics at all, no milk of any description, no bread ditto, virtually no dried or tinned foods, no fresh fruit or vegetables but hey…..I caught them just replenishing the shelf with a few packs of toilet rolls so managed to get a pack! I hate hoarders with a passion, they are so selfish buying so much unnecessarily, and I just bought the one pack of 9. It has been heartbreaking seeing the video posted by the critical care nurse in York which is currently being shown everywhere, she had just finished a 48 hour shift and couldn’t get any fresh foods to feed herself, I hope many of the selfish pr*cks have seen this and feel ashamed for what they are doing…….I doubt it though! 🙁

I guess I was right when I suggested they will have a vaccine for coronavirus before the page 2 issue is sorted on here! Any update Danny?

  • PompeyYid says:

Morning all, regards “Our Arry” leaving, I do not think so and esp’ to another Prem club, he is to “Spurs” to insult his fellow loyal Spurs fans here, don’t get me wrong if he did finally decide to leave, there would be a hell of a fight by DL to stop it, he would go to one of the big boys abroad.

Some say he wants Trophies, now what about the Trophy of being Spurs “all time record goal scorer” beating the great man Jimmy, “Our Arry” then becomes Legend! ever more in our history, plus staying at Spurs he can also aim to be the Prem all time goal scorer thus beating that Geordie.

Just my opinion.Still COYS 4 ever

  • Geofspurs says:

Doctor – Do you want the good news or the bad news first?
Me – The bad news, please.
Doctor – There’s no toilet paper.
Me – And the good news?
    Doctor – You’re constipated!

  • El Jefe says:

TQ – glad to hear it, Geof hope you’re well and family also – sorry no shout out until now lol!

PY hope like you that HK10 has personal ambition at the club aswell as collective – break Jimmy Greaves’ record and then Alan Shearer’s also. Further agree that reckon he would only go abroad and most probably to Madrid who I reckon would be the only club that could afford him quite frankly – reckon on Levy wanting some £250m for him – who else could afford him – no one but Madrid!

Still don’t think he’ll leave this summer and that he will give JM a chance to see what can do – hopefully we get a few signings in during the summer, everyone back fit and healthy and can put in a proper shift next season!

  • PompeyYid says:

Geofspurs…could that be taken as “Aussie toilet” humour lol! Still COYS 4 ever.

  • OyvehMaria says:

Well when this season finally gets to start to be able to finish it Jose has no excuses for anymore dropped points and dreadful performances – by the 1st May he will have his entire squad available……so he cant hide behind injuries anymore so he had better get Spurs into a CL Spot even if there is no CL till 2029 !!!!

  • Niall D says:

    Oyveh agreed!
However the way things have went I’d be happy with playing good possession football 5 wins 3 draws. To get CL football other clubs need to drop points. Much like last season. Geoff I thought it was going to be the slipper joke lol.

  • Geofspurs says:

EJ …. We’re all good thanks, mate. Hope you and yours stay safe.

PY …. That’s my English humour …. laugh in the face of adversary!

The Aussie Rules football season kicked off last night in front of an empty stadium. Not sure how long that will last but at least it’s good to watch some live sport! Desperate times.

    • TQ2Spurs says:

Geof…..BT Sport show the Aussie Rules games live in the UK, as you say desperate times, it’s about the only live sport there is currently apart from some behind closed door horse races from Ireland which you really would have to be desperate to watch! :- )

    • PompeyYid says:

Geofspurs….yes “English humour”, for many of us but not am afraid for the millenials and their co-horts, with the me! me! me! the world owes me attitude.

In the local Chavda this morning, went to get some essentials for my “house bound wife” did ok!, but got chatting to a lady of the generation before me at the checkout and she said and I quote, “in the war if people had behaved like this, with their me! me! me! attitude and stockpiling, they would have been bloody lynched” put a big smile on my boatrace. Still the mighty COYS 4 ever.
