Spurs At The European Championships Thread

|

After a long, hard and ultimately disappointing season for Tottenham Hotspur, we have a busy summer in store now as we look to both sort out our managerial situation as well as strengthen the group via the transfer market – as massive question being Harry Kane’s own future.

Whilst we’ll hopefully have our new manager in within a few weeks (or maybe our old manager given the Mauricio Pochettino rumours) it’s unlikely much will happen on a transfer front until we see the culmination of this summers European Championship competition.

In a world still dealing with Covid, personally, I think international football is slightly ridiculous at this moment in time, but money makes the world go round doesn’t it – Spurs fans will however have a natural interest in the tournament given the players and former players that should be on show.

If nothing else it’ll be a distraction for a few weeks – so anything Euro related can go in here VSers.

TQ, I think that the idea that DL is using IKEA instructions to administer THFC provides the most complete and parsimonious explanation of the state we’re in.

  • TK says:

Just saw a mad mad mad news story that Conte is back on. lol. Jesus (not the Gabriel type), I hope not. I don’t want a one or two year manager and then he takes off, and that’s Conte’s style. No thank you. but, really, the crazy news blip said he’s back on as a possibility. It truly is silly season. Next thing we’ll be getting arry Redknapp back.

    • BelgianSpur says:

Isn’t that the way of a,modern manager? Very short shelf life?

Galtier just win the French league with Lille and quit right after, saying it was the end of a cycle.

I think managers’ messages go stale after a few seasons anyways. The times of Wenger and Ferguson seem long gone.

  • 123spurs says:

Is levy gone a bit soft, I know it paper spec but 150 mill for kane, now that’s dirt cheap for the full package, and least 250 in todays market.

As for conte only available team is spurs right now or hold tough for a year or so.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Soft?!

Spurs will be lucky to get as much as anywhere near £150m for Harry…

Which clubs can even afford the £150m, 123? Let alone the fantasy football price of £250m?!

£250m? That’s the price of at least 4 Harry’s! 2 Kanes and a couple Winks’ thrown into the bargain!

  • TK says:

If Spurs don’t get something close to £150 for HK10, then DK will keep an unhappy HK10 at WHL–an unhappy HK10 with weak ankles. An unhappy HK10 with ith the tea lady as manager. And a new Director of Football watching DL fail to sign any of his recommended acquisitions.

    It’s a hard rain that’s gonna fall.

    Alterntive future–good day sunshine.

DL retires under massive pressure from members of VS. Harry says he wants to stay, as he sees light with the DL cloud removed. The tea lady institutes a radical 4-6-0 formation that transforms football as no defender knows which midfielder wills spring forward and free at any given time . Spurs win the quadruple in two years. Naming rights to the new WHL are bought by a startup cannabis company as what’s left of Britain legalizes ganja. Edibles sold at Peter Tosh Park at WHL.

Now to the new reality that is not merely in my imagination–the state of Washington in the USA has started a “Joints for Jabs” program. Anyone getting a vaccine shot for COVID will get a free marijuana cigarette from the state.

A new dawn surely is upon us. Anything is possible.

Up the tea lady! No bogarting. Pass the kouchie pon the lef han side.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

TK – none of your predictions are as bizarre as what has happened at Spurs in the last few weeks so I’m all for it. I may put in an offer for naming rights myself. I’ll start at £17.50 per year. I have a little room for negotiation. Over to you Daniel!

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

The transfer window is now open – that’s a window for players, not managers Mr Levy.
Meanwhile our rivals have all started doing business and we don’t even have a manager. What a competent chairman you are Mr Levy, worth every penny of your exorbitant salary!!!
This is what happens when the person running your company is answerable to absolutely no one, appalling decision after appalling decision and no consequences.

  • wentworth says:

Levy always the last one to arrive at the party. Most of the food has gone, only scraps left. A couple of cheap, warm beers. Everyone else has coupled up. The music is rubbish. Time to go home empty handed yet again.

Went to the sales the other day a few days after they had started. Only rubbish left in weird sizes. Paid too much for a tee shirt that was poor quality.Went home with nothing.else.

Note to self. Must get there early

  • 123spurs says:

City, United, psg to name a few, most transfer these days are fantasy football, bingo numbers. we might aswell get on the gravy train. Plus we don’t want to sell so at times you may have to pay that little bit extra that’s just life. No rush in selling kane contract ends 2024. If he really wants to leave, I don’t see him handed in a transfer request.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I’ve been reading up more on Christophe Galtier, seems to me he would be a good fit but would prefer it if he speaks English.

  • Niall D says:

TK have to laugh at your, 250 mil analogy re Kane and Winks.
It like a Bernard Cribbens song from the 60’s
    Right said Dan
    We’ll have to sell Harry
150 million he’ll surely have to go
We don’t want to swap for Jesus no matter who it pleases
We was godin nowhere and so we had a craft beer and
Right said Dan what about a manager
With our new stadium it’ll only take a mo’
    Poch said no
    So we had another go
    We was getting nowhere
    So Danny said
    What about the Charlady
    And we said righto.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Niall….you might have been better using his other song:

There I was diggin’ this ‘ole
An ‘ole in the ground all big and sort of round………..

    • Frank says:

Levy may have a method in his madness. The more of the transfer window that is consumed in his shambolic search for a manager, the less of it will be left to actually spend some money on squad improvement, a process we know that breaks both him and Bahama Joe’s hearts. We have gone at least 2 days without “red top” speculation on a new manager candidate, possibly because of lack of availability of any worthwhile possibilities. What a state this great club has been put into by our woefully inadequate, and grossly incompetent, chairman.
      .

  • Niall D says:

    100 % TQ either or m8.
There was I with this great ground
Bang slap in London all new and sort of round
It can’t be round it aught to be square Coz I can’t find a manager anywhere. 🙂

  • Spurfect One says:

Fonseca incoming? If so, I am very underwhelmed.

  • BelgianSpur says:

I still think Roberto Martinez is a viable alternative. He may not be everyone’s preferred choice but he’s at least a credible candidate on paper. He’ll be available after the Euros and won’t cost a fortune.

At this stage, he might be a compromise but I feel we could do far worse. Conte, and possibly Zidane aside, all of the other potential manager candidates are compromises of some sort.

  • 123spurs says:

Seems like spurs and roma are doing a wife swap ?
Is this because of our new DOF from juve. Don’t know what his style of play. “The Italian job”

  • TK says:

One hopes that the new DoF (?) has his eyes on exciting players, because his reported choice for manager isn’t apt to excite anyone. If this Fonseca fellow is to be our new manager, I’ll give him a chance before sending an email of complaint to DL.

I can say without hesitancy, however, that I’m happy to have Fonseca, should this be more than a day’s passing rumour, rather than Mourinho. But 123 has it right, it sounds like a wife swap. Let Roma get the shew.

  • TK says:

    Moçambicano?

  • TK says:

Portuguese from colonial Mozambique? Now let’s see. How have we done with managers from Portugal? Mourinho? Villas-Boas? Deus me livre !!!

  • Niall D says:

Just don’t want Martinez, he really has no pedigree in the premiership, other than an FA Cup, he has done very little, let’s face it with the group of players from Belgium any of us could’ve steered them to a cup by this time yet somehow even with them being the no1 team in the world off and on over the last few years Martinez has managed to win nothing, wait a minute, with that CV of winning fek all with a good team, maybe he is a good fit for Spurs 😉
