Plan B: What Spurs should do if Kane is sold

|

The transfer window this summer is going to be a long and gruelling one for us Spurs fans, as it seems more and more likely that Harry Kane will be handing in a transfer request.

Many pundits including the likes of Peter Crouch have already claimed that it will incredibly difficult for the England captain to leave the club, with such a high price tag placed on him by Daniel Levy.

However, there are a few clubs in the world that can afford to buy him if they went all out – Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United being the ones from the Premier League.

At Β£150 million though, it is going to be interesting to see if any of them teams actually puts up the cash and reaches an agreement with such a tough negotiator in our chairman.

But it is a lot of money, so is it not all doom and gloom if Kane is sold and is there light at the end of the tunnel in the event of that happening?

Promote Dane Scarlett

Teenage striker Dane Scarlett is waiting patiently in the youth team for his chance to prove himself at senior level, and if Kane is sold, why should we splash the cash on a striker when we have a player deemed as a wonder kid by many?

Jose Mourinho has already described him as a ‘diamond’ Β after the youngster’s determination spurred him into making an interception in the final third and teeing up Carlos Vinicius against Wolfsberger in the Europa League, at the time becoming the latest 16-year-old to setup a goal in the knockout stages of the completition.

Scarlett has played 19 games for the youth team this season, scoring a remarkable 22 goals as well as assisting a further four in what has been a dream season for the starlet, and should Kane leave, Scarlett should be entrusted and developed further.

Sign Sergio Aguero

We said don’t splash the cash on another striker, so why don’t we sign one who will be available for free instead?

Sergio Aguero is a far better striker than Carlos Vinicius or any of the other forwards we have been linked with, and he would be linking up with compatriots Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela as well as becoming a fantastic mentor to Scarlett, who is a similar type of player to the Argentine.

At 32-years-old, Aguero still has a number of years left at the top level and will be a more than adequate replacement for Kane, but will not get in the way of Scarlett becoming a regular fixture in the first team either.

Sign Milan Skriniar, Marcel Sabitzer, Max Aarons

There are three key areas needing improving, starting off with defence where long-term target Milan Skriniar will be a fantastic addition to the team which has lacked a leader who is full of confidence, determination, concentration and composure.

Max Aarons would complete the defence, coming in to replace Serge Aurier who just seems out-of-sorts at the minute, much like the majority of his career at Spurs, and the English right-back would provide more defensive stability as well as prove an attacking threat going forward.

Finally, Marcel Sabitzer would complete the key signings that would be brought in using the money from the Kane sale, and he will become the side’s prime creator, meaning we will finally have a Christian Eriksen replacement who can play accurate long balls, take shots from distance and create key chances in the final third.
