Two times Champions League winner had talks about move to Spurs

At this point now it’s a near certainty that a centre-back or two will be signed this summer by Daniel Levy as the Spurs back-line looks all out of sorts.

Joe Rodon currently looks like the only capable defender at the club right now despite his lack of Premier League experience and high profile mistakes in games against Liverpool and Chelsea which he has since put well and truly behind him.

One Spurs fan on Twitter highlighted that perfectly, saying, “The fact that Joe Rodon, a 23-year-old centre half plucked from a Championship club in a transfer window where the league had already started and in his rookie PL season, is now the only CB we can trust speaks volumes about where this team is right now.”

A partner for him at the back is exactly what all us fans are desperate for, and particularly one with experience but who still can do the business, like long-term target and Inter Milan star Milan Skriniar.

But a new name has been linked with the club, and one that carries a wealth of experience at club and International level, winning an abundance of trophies along the way – that name is Jerome Boateng.

The Germany and Bayern Munich defender will be leaving at the end of the season on a free transfer, leaving Spurs with little work to do in terms of negotiations as wages shouldn’t prove to be an issue for the 32-year-old.

His half-brother, Kevin-Prince, made 25 appearances for Spurs in a disappointing spell at the club back between 2007 and 2009, where he was massively out of favour under Harry Redknapp and eventually found himself impressing at Portsmouth before earning a move to AC Milan.

Spurs fans will be hoping that the German will have a better impact at the club than his half-brother did, and although he is turning 33 at the start of September, he is exactly the type of player that we desperately need who can come in and demonstrate leadership and quality in our defence.

Boateng, a 76 time Germany international who once turned out for Manchester City, has scored two goals in 32 appearances in all competitions this season, and is a big, strong and quick ball-playing defender who remains very mobile despite his age.

If Skriniar can’t be bought this summer, Boateng would be our second-choice for sure as he has all the attributes required to be a leader in the side and still has the athleticism, defensive ability and composure to be a solid partner for Joe Rodon for at least a couple of seasons.
