With Tottenham Hotspur getting back to winning ways on Thursday evening with a comfortable Europa League Group victory over LASK, it was all eyes back to the Premier League campaign as we make the trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley on Monday evening.
You know exactly what to expect from Sean Dyche’s side – they will be tough, niggly, organised and they will look to break up the improvements we’ve seen in our attacking play of late. With that said, as long as we stay tight at the back and defend set pieces well, we have enough pace and talent to break them open and then it’s just a question of whether or not, we make it count.
Manager Jose Mourinho will undoubtedly rotate the first team squad again in an effort to keep things fresh, but despite getting his first start in midweek, Gareth Bale will likely be back on the bench as we continue slowly building his fitness after injury.
When all is said and done (and with respect), this should be all three points on paper but Burnley won’t make it easy, and West Ham proved we often don’t make it easy for ourselves.
Burnley...

Spurs Bounce Back With No LASK Minute Surprises – Match Stats
Terrible first half. Jose playing into Burnley’s hands with his selection. We have nothing except long balls. This is the real Jose. Le Celso will be on for N’dombele in the second half
A team scoring for fun, no shots on goal against a bottom 3 side,
Bale, vinny, le celso, a shot on goal. Why hasnt our back up striker not been brought on.
Appalling tactics. Jose out
Never looked like scoring, and look at our bench, what is jose thinking
Very lucky tonight. 3 points onwards and upwards.
Good away win… Can’t complain!
Up the Spurs and Up the Table we go!
Well, it wasn’t pretty, but then it was never going to be at Turf Moor on a cold and wet Monday night. We got the job done with a clean sheet, up to 5th in the table with the best goal difference and that is what matters.
Ugh! What a bore. We sneaked it thanks to our best defender, best midfielder and best attacker. Step forward Mr Harry Kane. What a player.
So, we can still win ugly – I’ll take that.
Should have added……top scorers as well!
So sorry to hear about your wife, PY. All the best for a full recovery.
My thoughts are with you, PY. Hope things improve quickly for you both.
What’s the matter with some of you. There are always two teams on the park and in this game Burnley defended brilliantly for most of it. Full credit to Spurs for remaining patient and trusting in their ability to get a result. Excellent away win despite not being a classic …. it’s the PL.
We’ve now got two more tough games against teams who will defend, and then a string of games against teams who will want to attack. Patience should see us win the first two and ‘our attacking game’ should make the next games more exciting. On paper, that is!

Good to see ya back.
Was looking at some comments on BBC tonight. Something like :Burnley tactics suck the life out of a game. Why don’t Burnley go out and play a bit they might get beaten 4-3 but at least there will be some entertainment.
Those weren’t my comments.
TQ and I predicted this, they set out not to lose and to steal a win. Of course they had their chances.
However as was said earlier we won ugly against a tough defensive team.
They are the new Stoke for sure.
COYS
Hope all ‘S OK with your missus PY.
It may not have been an exciting game of football but Spurs played very well as a strong team unit.
Geof rightly pointed to Burnley’s stout defending. They made it very tough for us, for sure. But Spurs also defended very well. And that was from front to back. The team worked very hard for each other. They needed to…
Lloris, Toby and Dier stood strong against their two burly CF’s. Doherty and Davies were not as good as on Thursday but, still did their bit. Our defensive midfield duo of Hojbjerg and Sissoko complemented each other well and made it hard for them to get through us.
Our two goal machines, Son and Kane both worked their nuts off, if not at their attacking best… Still it was their partnership that got us the win. Ndombele is looking very much like the talented player I thought we bought last season and is improving weekly. The only guy that I thought was not fully on it last night was Lucas. But his replacement, Lamela, did well and was more of what we needed…
Burnley made it tough for us but we also made it tough for them…. And, we won!
AND……….
After 6 matches, Son is top of the charts as the PL’s No.1 goalscorer, with 8. Harry is not far behind with 5. And Harry is top of the PL pops with 8 assists. That is twice as many as Villa’s McGinn, who is second in the chart.
And, as TQ pointed out, we are the PL’s top scorers, with no less than 16 goals.
We have already played a lot of matches this season. More than most. But since our opening day loss to Everton, we remain unbeaten in all competitions.
It’s looking pretty good to me….
PY… sorry to hear about your wife, best wishes for her recovery, and to you coping with the trauma.
Last night was a tough game, Burnley did indeed defend well, blocking shots, attacking runs and a 442 shape defending. Burnley player (barnes) lucky not to be sent off violent conduct elbowing toby and cut his eye. Look at replay barnes looked at toby than jumped elbow out, toby was looking at the ball. Respect to toby continuing bandaged head. Lloris did well catching the ball instead of punching or swatting away. Ndombele getting better by the game. So a ground out win showed team sprit and tenacity. Credit to Jose as well he is getting the squad into shape.
HK10 & Sonny the best strikers this season in PL, and a partnership total of 29 goals well done lads.
I do remember over a few years ago… a number of times…Fergie man utd got going in PL from end of oct onwards to winning the title. Spurs could do the same ? COYS
Nice thought block but I think there is far more quality from top to bottom of the PL now so going on long unbeaten runs, away from home in particular, is a much tougher ask now.
