With Tottenham Hotspur getting back to winning ways against LASK in midweek after our West Ham slip up, tonight’s Premier League clash had us travelling to Turf Moor to take on Sean Dyche’s battling Burnley side.
Manager Jose Mourinho made the expected changes once again, but it was a strong line-up, with Eric Dier returning after passing a late fitness test.
It was a pretty lively and tough start as fans would’ve expected (and we gave as good as we got), but in terms of goalmouth action, there was very little to get excited about. That was until Burnley broke through but despite putting the ball in the net, Ashley Barnes was clearly offside.
A wake up call mind you.
It was a strange half though, we were on top but it was also pretty end to end, and it’s hard not to say Burnley finished the stronger even though we dominated the ball.
Final 45 to go!
And sadly not much changed, Burnley took better control even though we continued to have the ball. By minute 66 we still hadn’t managed an effort on goal and we’d only had three potshots to cheer. On the other hand, the hosts had had nine potshots and two made Lloris move.
The highlight for me was seeing a giggling Dier explain to Chris Wood how that was now handball, knowing we’d massively got away with one.
And then we went and scored and Heung-Min again made a woeful night quite Sonny with our first shot on target!
Short of possession, Burnley had the better stats from the 90 so this goes down as an ugly, dug deep victory. But you still need those on occasions don’t you?
1-0 is how it finished, another three points, a debut for newbie Joe Rodon and up from 11th to 5th.
