Match Thread – Spurs Ready For A Turf Up With Burnley

|

With Tottenham Hotspur getting back to winning ways on Thursday evening with a comfortable Europa League Group victory over LASK, it was all eyes back to the Premier League campaign as we make the trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley on Monday evening.

You know exactly what to expect from Sean Dyche’s side – they will be tough, niggly, organised and they will look to break up the improvements we’ve seen in our attacking play of late. With that said, as long as we stay tight at the back and defend set pieces well, we have enough pace and talent to break them open and then it’s just a question of whether or not, we make it count.

Manager Jose Mourinho will undoubtedly rotate the first team squad again in an effort to keep things fresh, but despite getting his first start in midweek, Gareth Bale will likely be back on the bench as we continue slowly building his fitness after injury.

When all is said and done (and with respect), this should be all three points on paper but Burnley won’t make it easy, and West Ham proved we often don’t make it easy for ourselves.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

Bad news Geof……Modric has reportedly said that at 35 he is too old to do the same as GB and return to Spurs.

Two minds think alike. I said something similar in the first post here. That there are 7 teams who have a chance to win the premiership this season, and we have as good a chance (if not better) than any.
I also alluded to the fact that we nearly have two good teams within our squad with each position covered by at least 2 decent players.
Other factors would be that we have now settled into “new Whiteheart Lane”.
We have a settled “competitive” squad and a settled manager (at present).
I think we are coming in under the radar, no pundits that I had seen even put us top 4, now there are one or two murmurs of us taking the league this year.
I do think we will find some success , may be a trophy a final or two and have a decent league run.
Tough opposition tonight but I think we now have the tenacity to get a result.

Niall… Yes spurs are much stronger this season, so I had better get down the bookies £50 spurs to win PL… a friend got 50/1 two weeks ago. Prob. less now 🙂

Apart from west ham game we are stronger mentally now new players and jose have added to our existing players team sprit. Bale is the marquee signing and he will be immensely influential to all players from 1st team down to academy.

Niall….there is no doubt that squad wise we are in a very good place we just need to toughen up mentally to see out games we should win comfortably. We must learn to take advantage when other potential title contenders drop points as they have done this weekend and in the weekend when we dropped 2 points to the hammers from a winning position.

TQ … Yes, I saw that. It explains why he hasn’t replied to my letters!

For tonight (or tomorrow morning), I’m going with our average goals per game …. 0 – 3 and I don’t care who scores although I do think that Harry and Son should try harder to share the glory around. : – )

I think the fixtures after the next international break up to Christmas will tell us a lot. An incredibly tough run of games but at least we have the depth in the squad.
A tough game up at a wet and windy Burnley tonight. As has been said on this site, we have to stop giving away stupid free kicks. You can guarantee that Burnley will be exceptionally physical. We will have to stand up to them physically and then hope our extra quality shines through COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I wonder if we will see Rodon getting a debut alongside Toby tonight? We definitely need someone who is good in the air in defence against Burnley, I don’t trust a combination of Sanchez and Toby to deal with aerial threats.

  • 123spurs says:

With the squad jose has now, top 4 is minimum requirement.

  • 123spurs says:

Our weak link is set pieces, let’s not let Burnley bully us. They are in the bottom 3 and won none, surely spurs would never give them their 1st win.

I have been quiet on here over the last couple of days, my missus had a massive heart attack and is in hospital and has been for the last couple of days, just got back she is doing ok, but it seems the stent she had fitted 8 years ago failed, down to the meds she was on so all change, shit n fan hitting.

    Sorry for being off topic.

As for tonight, we have a huge chance to make a statement with a win at Burnley, convincing would say something, but get a win lads and prove that you are really up for it this season.

    Burnley 0 – 4 Spurs. COYS

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

All this talk about a free scoring Spurs and a change in style for Jose. This game has Nil Nil written all over it

  • TQ2Spurs says:

DH…….I don’t think even a pessimist would see this being goalless looking at our subs bench! :- )

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

TQ2 Spurs – if I come across any pessimists I’ll ask them what they think. I’m pretty sure they would predict a defeat though
