Match Thread – Spurs Ready For A Turf Up With Burnley

|

With Tottenham Hotspur getting back to winning ways on Thursday evening with a comfortable Europa League Group victory over LASK, it was all eyes back to the Premier League campaign as we make the trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley on Monday evening.

You know exactly what to expect from Sean Dyche’s side – they will be tough, niggly, organised and they will look to break up the improvements we’ve seen in our attacking play of late. With that said, as long as we stay tight at the back and defend set pieces well, we have enough pace and talent to break them open and then it’s just a question of whether or not, we make it count.

Manager Jose Mourinho will undoubtedly rotate the first team squad again in an effort to keep things fresh, but despite getting his first start in midweek, Gareth Bale will likely be back on the bench as we continue slowly building his fitness after injury.

When all is said and done (and with respect), this should be all three points on paper but Burnley won’t make it easy, and West Ham proved we often don’t make it easy for ourselves.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

As Jose said you know when you play Burnley it will be a tough game, it pretty much always is. Arsene Wenger used to moan about teams not playing in a way that suited Arsenal but the reality is its down to us to find a way to win, which we did. It doesn’t have to be pretty, it doesn’t have to be 5 or 6 goals, it just has to be 3 points. Maybe that’s where our mentality is changing.

Wasn’t the best game nor performance but we won not much more can be added other than you can see why Burnley only have 1 point…

    Hi folks
Posted last night but it didn’t appear.
    2 things first.
Most importantly PY good news you’re getting you wife home safe and well. That’s fantastic.
Also good to see HT back and on form. (where’s EJ)
About last night. TQ and I called this one, we did allude to Burnley being the new Stoke and it panned out that way.
It is defend at all costs and steal a win or snatch an early goal and hold on.
They are a tough physical side.
But as some have said here we were able to grind out a result and in other seasons we may have folded.
Saw a report in the broad sheets re this game which said that this is the sort of win which gets a team the title.
    Sometimes you gotta win ugly.

Credit to Burnley for making it very difficult for Spurs. They’re not very easy on the eye, but they play to their strengths and there is nothing wrong with that. It doesn’t make for a great game of football, but I don’t think they’ll care.

There is nothing much to say about the performance except that the team kept at it and was eventually rewarded on a bit of individual quality from Kane and Son. It keeps us in the mix near the top of the table.

I’m sure some will use this sort of game to slam Jose’s style of play. I don’t think we’d have done much better in the MP days, personally. If the game lacked fluency, Sean Dyche is to blame more so than any Spurs manager, past or present.

In the meantime, I will try to find my way inside the stadium on Thursday, as it’s only about 45 minutes away from home (although the last time I saw Spurs play in Belgium (Gent), things didn’t exactly work out for the best…)!

Hi BS, do you have any knowledge of Antwerp and their form this season you can share with us?

PY… great news, about your wife. 🙂

All change again, rotation 7 players. Vinnie CF, hopefully we get the win again. COYS

I see Digne has had his red card ban reduced from 3 to just 1 game, if I were Fulham I would appeal Kamara’s red on the same basis as his tackle was pretty much identical.

  • Stan Rosenthal says:

Like every one else I was screaming for some attacking subs to be brought on in the Burnley game. Vinny was ready to come on but was being held back by Jose. Again I was screaming at Jose. Then we scored our goal and I was thankful that we still had all our defenders on the pitch. Afterwards Jose explained that Vinny was to take Sissoka’s place but was delaying the change to have all our defenders in place if we managed to score, which we duly did. I suppose this is what separates the men from the boys manager-wise.

Can I add my good wishes regarding your wife’s recovery PY.
