Which players could Nagelsmann bring with him to Spurs?

|

It is now believed that RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann is the front runner for the vacant Tottenham job, even despite Bayern Munich’s interest in him, after Jose Mourinho was sacked yesterday morning.

Daniel Levy is reportedly confident on landing the German manager, who is just 33 but has already managed over 200 games, and he has experience in guiding his teams to Champions League qualification – which may not even be a factor in Spurs’ decision anymore after the European Super League announcement.

But, should the Super League go ahead, that will inevitably mean the next manager will be given a large budget to turn Spurs into a world-beating side to compete with the other eleven ‘world-beating’ sides.

And the club have already been linked with a couple of Leipzig’s stars, so will Nagelsmann attempt to bring them with him to North London?

Marcel Sabitzer

We have ranted and raved about how good Austrian midfielder Marcel Sabitzer really is for a few months now, and Spurs have been heavily linked with acquiring the 27-year-old for less than the €42 million that Leipzig have previously quoted for him.

He would be our Christian Eriksen replacement, which is something that we have lacked in the last season and a half, leaving a big hole in the midfield which at times has looked completely flat and lacking of any creativity, leaving Harry Kane to come even deeper to receive the ball.

With one year left on his contract and wages not going to be an issue for the Austrian who has already stated money is not everything to him, Nagelsmann could definitely persuade him to come to Spurs and Levy may be able to get him on a cut-price deal.

Nordi Mukiele

Versatile defender Nordi Mukiele has been linked with a move to Spurs in the past, and like Japhet Tanganga, he can naturally play in the heart of defence or as a right-back.

The Frenchman has started 20 games in the Bundesliga this season, scoring in three and assisting one goal, averaging a 7.07 rating when deployed on the right-hand side, higher than Matt Doherty’s 7.03 but not higher than Serge Aurier’s 7.12.

However, the former Montpellier defender is still only 22-years-old and has been a much more consistent performer than both Doherty and Aurier this season, and with a value of around £25 million, he could be available this summer to Spurs to improve that right-back position, but it is unaware how much his price tag will be set at.

Christopher Nkunku

Former PSG midfielder Christopher Nkunku has been a revelation at Leipzig since joining last season, and so far this year, he has played absolutely anywhere and everywhere in midfield as he has made 11 goal contributions (6 goals and 5 assists) in the Bundesliga this season, despite starting just 16 times.

A similar kind of player to Dele Alli, Nkunku has already been linked with a move to the club before and could be available for just £34 million as Arsenal are reportedly desperate too to land him.

However, once again, Spurs could have the pulling power of Nagelsmann at their disposal in the summer, and Nkunku would be a very welcome addition to the team where he could replace the potential outgoing Erik Lamela and Moussa Sissoko, as well as Gareth Bale.
