Tottenham duo will miss Everton clash but are in the ‘final stages of their rehabilitation’

|

Tottenham have confirmed that Serge Aurier and Mousa Dembele will be absent for Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Everton. The duo are on the recovery trail, however, with Spurs revealing Aurier and Dembele are in the ‘final stages of their rehabilitation’. Mauricio Pochettino should pick Kieran Trippier and Moussa Dembele at right-back and centre-midfield respectively.

Aurier picked up a groin injury against Leicester City on December 8 and missed Tottenham’s Champions League meeting with Barcelona three days late. The Ivorian international was also out of action for Spurs’ home clash with Burnley on December 15 and the North London derby victory in midweek. With Aurier in the final stages of rehab, there’s a slim chance he could feature before 2018 comes to an end.

As for Dembele, the Belgian has been sidelined since early November with a ankle injury, missing 10 games in all competitions for Tottenham. Dembele’s last game under Pochettino was a seven-minute showing against Wolverhampton Wanderers on November 3, where he was hooked off after sustaining the initial injury. The midfielder, who has made 13 appearances across the board, could return early into the New Year, having been ruled out for three months last month.
