Tottenham player ruled out for three months, due to see injury specialist overseas

|

Moussa Dembele is due to see a specialist for his ankle injury, with Jack Rosser of the Evening Standard reporting that the Tottenham midfielder has flown to Qatar to see Aspetar – the experts who treated Harry Winks’ own ankle problem.

Dembele has been ruled out of action until 2019, with Mauricio Pochettino hoping he’ll return in January, and now the specialists will see if they can shave any time off that prediction.

The 31-year-old hasn’t enjoyed the best season for Tottenham. His form has been patchy at times and Pochettino has dropped him from the starting lineup on occasion, in addition to bringing him off in games he was selected in.

Dembele was a substitute in Tottenham’s opening two league outings but did get himself back into the reckoning in September before he was hooked at half-time against Huddersfield Town near the end of the month after picking up a thigh injury.

Since then, his appearances have been patchy – one start from Tottenham’s next five league games. His future looks uncertain too, as the Belgian’s deal is up in the summer and he doesn’t appear close to putting pen to paper on a contract extension.

The 31-year-old has still made 13 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham this season, but he’s not been at his best, nor does it appear he’ll be playing under Pochettino in 2019/20. It would be a waste for his final campaign with Spurs to be disrupted with injuries.
