The Spurs Conundrum – Trophy Or Not To Trophy, That Is The Question – Does Harry Kane Even Really Care?

|

With former Tottenham Hotspur striker Teddy Sheringham being the latest to add his voice of concern to the future of England man Harry Kane and his future at White Hart Lane if we don’t add trophies to the cabinet, it’s sparked the expected reaction amongst the fanbase.

Some are heavily worried 25-year-old Kane will be off for greater money and things to put on his mantelpiece, others aren’t so sure believing that he’s one player who could still become a one club legend even in the modern game.

I posited that thought myself and basically second guessed those already second guessing Kane’s motivations for life and his career.

Sheringham Sends Spurs A Warning – “That’s Not Good Enough”

A comment from Vital Spurs member Total Knobhead caught my attention, and I couldn’t be in greater 100% agreement with his line of thought.

Even winning the Champions League or a league guarantees nothing. Real Madrid won the CL and have won the Spanish League, but CR7 still ran off to Italy. Life is not simple and satisfaction is elusive. Of course, Harry Kane will be happier to win the EPL and the CL, but that would guarantee nothing. And as a London lad with Spurs running through his veins, he might stay come hell and high water. All the rest is speculation.

But this I do know: He’ll benefit from winning with us far more than he would if he won elsewhere, like in Real Madrid, where he’d be just another player in a long list to hold a cup aloft. Do we really think that Gareth Bale has been living a life well-lived in Madrid? I guess he’s not all that happy there, even though he’s won some trophies that he likely would not have won here. He’s never really fit into Madrid or the club there. Win with us and be a god forever. Hard to beat that as a legacy.

Of course, winning means little in comparison with leading a decent life. Want some life advice? Avoid Faustian bargains when pursuing the trophies. Above all else, I hope for Harry that he remains what he seems to be now: a decent man. If starts to seek life’s baubles above else, he’s apt to lose that most precious thing. A life well-lived isn’t the life that gains the most money or the most trophies. Some of the poor slobs writing on VS might have far better lives than does CR7, who seems a rather miserable dick, as do many of the most successful players of the pitch. Crashing expensive cars while driving about wearing bits and bobs of gold does not make for a well-lived life.
