Tottenham Hotspur have long been credited with an interest in Roma starlet Nicolo Zaniolo but over the weekend the rumour mill kicked up a gear when it came to the 19-year-old midfielder, with claims that we were now lining up a firm £40million offer.
The report admittedly comes from the Mirror so that will be a red flag for plenty, but it is another of those stories that the media won’t let go of at the moment.
There’s already been plenty of excitement amongst the fanbase at the mention of his name given the development he’s made in his first year at Roma as he has impressed plenty with his 35 performances in his breakthrough year, but equally plenty doubt we’d take a risk on him, especially for that fee, and others have been underwhelmed by his showings anyway.

Whilst he ticks a number of manager Mauricio Pochettino’s boxes, I’m not so sure we can expect to see him at the club next summer as there’s a heavy ring of the press feeding off the fact he’s a fresh face. If Poch wants a new chapter at the club, he’ll want more than a potential one season wonder in my eyes.
