Saturday’s red card could put Brazilian defender’s future in the balance – Opinion

|

Saturday’s woeful performance at the Emirates was summed up by the stupidity of Emerson’s sending off.

Emerson’s stamp on Gabriel Martinelli in the 62nd minute may have just put the nail in the coffin, for his Spurs career.

Many Spurs fans have recently grown frustrated with Antonio Conte for persisting with the Brazilian. With Emerson frequently slowing down Spurs attacks with his poor offensive play, which is often hurtful to a normally fast flowing attacking force.

Royal’s poor attacking displays are shown by the fact the has only has a measly 3 goal contributions in 51 appearances – made worse by the fact fellow wing-back Ivan Perisic has beaten that total in 41 less games.

Diving deeper in the stats, he is the bottom 30% (across Europe’s top five leagues) in his position for progressive passes, passes into the final third and crosses into the box.

The Brazilian’s poor performances have recently been exemplified by the fact he revealed that his has spent £800,000 pounds on improving himself as a footballer.

Clearly showing that money can’t buy talent…

New signing Djed Spence and Irishman Matt Doherty could justifiably be confused as to why they have not seen more opportunities this season. Especially with Doherty performing so well before his injury back in April.

What would you do?

Persist with Emerson

If I was the manager I would start bedding in Spence as he has the ability to provide that little something extra that we have been lacking in the final third
Being of the age he is he is hungry for success and listen to instructions on how his game could be improved

It was up last season, no change, no difference, no improvements under conte tactics, why have 4 or 5 defenders on the bench and just gill as the only attacking option.
We sit back inviting pressure hoping to catch them on the counter with our front 3. It’s madness now. Attack and put sustain pressure on them. So many attempts on goal against us.

Conte won’t win a trophy spurs playing line this.
