Tottenham suffered a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Saturday afternoon and Victor Wanyama was one of the players blamed for the result. He was brought on when Spurs were 1-0 up and was culpable for the two goals Leicester scored in the second-half to turn the game on its head.
The 28-year-old allowed Ricardo Pereira to make a late run into the box to convert a low cross for Leicester to equalise and didn’t put enough pressure on James Maddison before the midfield by City ahead with a long-range effort. Fans made their feelings clear on social media.
Come on Poch! I want Lucas on for Son, and Eriksen on for Ndombelé!
Wanyama not good enough anymore. Better to use Skipp or Dier. #LEITOT #THFC #COYS— David Williams (@DavidWilliamsDK) September 21, 2019
Victor Wanyama has really struggled since he was brought on in the second half for Moussa Sissoko. I don't see him ever starting for Spurs#LCFC#LeiTot#THFC

The Wanyama substitution was absolutely baffling. #COYS #THFC

Wanyama coming on for Sissoko cost us! Winks and Sissoko was solid and gave the momentum to Leicester…still think VAR is crap #THFC

We need to be playing those putting in the effort. Eriksen has gone – his effort from the bench was pathetic , Wanyama should be nowhere near the first team. Lucas and Lamela put a shift in but get pelters. I have no idea what N’Dombele has brought recently either 😩 #COYS #THFC

We need to just terminate Wanyama’s contract immediately, just costs us games #THFC

Can anyone explain to me wtf Wanyama is still getting on the field? He was a complete liability last year. He's only here because of a transfer collapse. Why did he get selected off the bench Poch? #COYS #THFC

Oh and before I forget Wanyama has been washed for at least 2 years how is he still getting minutes??#thfc

Mauricio Pochettino also came in for criticism after bringing on a player who nearly left the club over the summer – Wanyama came close to joining Club Brugge at the end of the transfer window. The Kenyan international was deemed surplus to requirements but surprisingly found himself back in the first-team and ahead of Eric Dier in the pecking order.
Wanyama made his first appearance of the season over the weekend and has been blamed for Tottenham’s collapse. Pochettino’s decision to introduce him completely backfired, so whether the midfielder will be given another chance against Colchester United (September 24) or Southampton (September 28) remains to be seen.
