Report: Mauricio Pochettino considering U-turn on £65k-per-week Tottenham man

|

According to Wayne Veysey of the Football Insider, Mauricio Pochettino is considering bringing Victor Wanyama back to the Tottenham fold. The £65k-per-week midfielder was made available for sale over the summer and nearly joined Club Brugge on deadline day.

Wanyama turned down a move to the Belgian outfit, risking the fury of Daniel Levy, and could now be reintegrated in the first-team. Whether he lasts the duration of the January transfer window remains to be seen, however. The 28-year-old has fallen down the pecking order in the last 12 months and might have to leave to get regular first-team football.

Wanyama hasn’t racked up a minute of playing time at senior level and hasn’t even made the matchday squad since being an unused substitute on the opening day – vs Aston Villa (August 10). The Kenyan international racked up 838 minutes of Premier League in 2017/18 and 509 minutes in 2018/19. He has 0 minutes in 2019/20.

It’s hard to see Wanyama featuring ahead of Tanguy Ndombele, Moussa Sissoko, Eric Dier, Giovani Lo Celso and Harry Winks, so the defensive midfielder could spend the first half of the season on the periphery. He may consider his future in the New Year as a result.
