Match Thread – Spurs Shouldn’t Be The Villans This Weekend

|

Although Tottenham Hotspur saw their ‘Winter Break’ interrupted owing to the FA Cup fourth round replay against Southampton, we took another much needed victory to book our place in the next round of the competition and with back to back wins under our belt once more, we’ll be hoping to see further improvement when we return to the pitch this weekend against Aston Villa.

The opening tie against the Premier League returners was a tricky affair to say the least, but we took a late 3-1 victory in the end as we opened our year up, and there are certainly reasons for positivity ahead of this one, as despite a reasonable scoring record, Villa certainly let plenty in at the other end of the pitch.

With a good few days off in the lead up to the game, players should be refreshed but we’ll have to see what the state of play is with any new injuries. Victory would push us back into fifth place in the table ahead of the impressive Sheffield United, so here’s hoping and back to back league wins would definitely give everyone a nice boost.

I copied this from the last thread which was in it’s death throes!

Not sure if this link will work ( https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7988441/Harry-Redknapp-Alan-Mullery-reasons-Jimmy-Greaves-knighted.html ) but it does sum Jimmy up. I expect most of you have already seen it.

The game Cliff mentions against Leicester is one of the first things I think of when it comes to JG’s many goals. The game was just before I left England and I was so thankful that he left me with that memory. I can still see the newspaper pictures showing half of the opposition defence laying on the ground across midfield as Jimmy, who has just floated around the GK, side-foots the ball into an empty net. It was AWESOME!

  • PompeyYid says:

Geofspurs….I repeat, form prev article, thanks for the reminder of just one of may happy memories of the greatest all time English striker, “our Jimmy” COYS

  • PompeyYid says:

Bleedin heck, not checking last, form = from and may = many duh! lol!

Tough game, Villa are fighting for their future in the Prem, but I think we might just have to much for them, thus a win. COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Let’s hope Dele is available to play. Some of the suggestions in the media about what action should be taken against him is somewhat over the top but he is an idiot for posting his ‘joke’ about the coronavirus. It’s time he took a leaf out of HK10’s book and found himself a nice girl to settle down with, having his own little family would result in him growing up very quickly and hopefully stop him doing these stupid immature things on social media.

  • PompeyYid says:

TQ….though his “joke” is regarded as ? and that he was immature, more like stupid for posting it on Social media, because you will always upset some one worldwide, thus get trolled, lets be perfectly honest we of the pre Social media crowd did stupid immature things ourselves, and like him we learned lessons, well some did lol!, as he will. COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

How many more times are we going to say that before the penny finally drops with him PY? You would think that with the number of times he has embarrassed himself he would have already learned the lesson!

  • PompeyYid says:

Yes am in agreement with you there TQ, oh! to be young again and have the same thing said to me/us on a regular basis lol! COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Another week slips by since the last update regarding the site issue, poor IT guy must have some backlog! :- )

  • block 108 spurs says:

The game will give Grelish a chance to impress Jose. However we will have too much for them, we need to start a lot better than in last 8 games, otherwise another frantic last 10 mins + injury time chasing the game…

Dele is still being led by friends, and needs to get a riot act chapter & verse shouted at him from Jose and backed by Levy. He has brought the club into disrepute as well as himself..

  • Niall D says:

Many, many moons ago I was working in security as a young 19 Yr old. I thought it would be funny to moon in front of CCTV cameras for my mates. The people who owned the property just happened to be watching. 1 week l8r I was working 120 miles from home. Teaches you a lesson. I grew up quick Dele needs to do the same.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

What has Dele done that is so wrong?

He just made a silly joke that was in bad taste. He filmed it and uploaded it onto social media.
He then very quickly deleted it, apologised for it and said that he realised straight away was a stupid thing to do. He then sent his apologies and sympathy to the Chinese. He wrote; “It isn’t something that should be joked about. I’m sending all my love and all my thoughts and prayers to everyone in China.”

Calling it racist, as many have done, is as equally stupid. It’s insensitive but it’s not racist. Stupid, but not hateful. Bad jokes are not a crime.

Ban him! Some say… For what?

    • TQ2Spurs says:

Too many people incorrectly relate incidents to racism nowadays HT, there were at least three reports that I saw on TV yesterday alone where the racist card was used to justify criticism of very straightforward events.

What Dele did was stupid and insensitive and he quickly realised this, what worries me more is the fact that he keeps repeating these mistakes. Hopefully he learn from this one.

By contrast, I have just seen an article which reports that Eric Dier took a £250 Easyjet flight to Marakesh for his break and mingled and chatted with the other passengers, many of whom remarked how refreshing it was. Good on you Eric!

    • PompeyYid says:

HT….exactly, totally agree, tried to same the same thing earlier, we have all done stupid things in jest, simple as that. COYS

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Back to the football…

Dele Alli to score at least 1 goal in a convincing PL victory for the Spurs…

    Villans 1-4 Naughty (Tottenham) boys!

Watch out Chelsea, here we come!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

As a fellow human being I have made many mistakes far greater in the scheme of things, than Dele’s publicised error of judgement. In fact I make these kinds of mistakes all the time… Things I shouldn’t have said or done. A swear word at the wrong time. A look, a sneer. An argument. A misguided and insensitive turn of phrase, etc. Nothing particularly harmful or hateful. Nothing everlasting… Just basic human error. That is all.

Both myself and Dele will make yet more mistakes in our lives. Unfortunately for him, something that would be over and done with in a moment and probably go mostly unnoticed if it were me, is all over the media for him…

Please let our footballers be human again… Both on and off the pitch…

Let us all put things into a more clear and sober perspective. Own goals do not hurt like hatred hurts.

Dele has just scored an own goal via Snapchat. That is all.

    • PompeyYid says:

Couldn’t agree more HT, well said.

More importantly, now on to the game v Villa, all I can say is we are going to win. COYS

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Sorry all for my Dele diversion and Wednesday morning rant…

I’m looking forward now to watching Spurs again on the weekend. (the start of a very busy and crucial week for the lads)… I hope the change for them all (the short winter break) is as good as a much needed rest.

I’m also looking forward to seeing some of the new lads play again. I’ve been pretty impressed with most of them. And I’m impressed that Jose hasn’t messed about in starting and playing them straight from the off…

    Up the Spurs!

  • 123spurs says:

It all depends on which spurs turn up, Vila won’t beat spurs it will be spurs own doing that villa could get a win,

  • TQ2Spurs says:

As if on cue we have seen the racist card being used at the highest level this lunchtime at PMQ’s in the Commons with Corbyn accusing the PM and government of being racist for deporting foreign nationals who have committed serious crimes. He claims that if they were white we wouldn’t be removing them, maybe he should check to see how many caucasian criminals have also been removed before making such a claim with the benefit of parliamentary priviledge.

Sorry, end of politics, but it does relate to the Dele discussion earlier.

    • PompeyYid says:

      So true TQ.

So the Villans v Cockerels, could Spurs be their own worst enemy thus villans to their own fans, nah! not going to happen, we are going to win and put pressure on the Chavs for their game v MU on Monday. COYS

    • The LIttle Engine that Could says:

Do you really want to open this theme on the thread? You actually have doubts about the racism of the Tories? Leave it off, mate. Don’t fracture our community here with silliness. We are the Yids, traditional victims of racism, and those who hated Yids would claim not to have a racist sentiment in their bones. Not a good idea to open up such a can of worms, mate. Don’t do this. You’ll come to regret it if it goes on.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Mark Grealish out of the game and you’re more than half way there.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

    haha…..nice one PY 🙂

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Getting close to page 2 time………I wonder if?

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Watching our women playing Everton, will be interesting to see if the club has any ambition in this area. The squad needs some serious upgrading if we are going to be competitive in the WSL. Shocking defensive errors to gift them 2 goals so far and little idea and a lack of quality in attack.
