“Telling Things That Are Not True” – Spurs Boss Hits Back After Pundit’s Recent Claims

|

Over the weekend Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson used his Daily Star column to round on Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho, claiming amongst other things that his ‘charm offensive’ was now over, and given he’s back to his usual ‘Grump Mourinho’ and displaying Manchester United like behaviour, he feels he already regrets the decision to move to White Hart Lane.

The key for this outburst seems to have been Jan Vertonghen’s reaction to being substituted in the recent FA Cup clash with Southampton, and he went further by claiming that we had not improved since he replaced Mauricio Pochettino.

Fans will naturally have their own thoughts on that given our performances under The Special One so far, but in an interview with Sky Sports News which aired at 6.05am this morning, Mourinho hit back hard, in what can only have been a response to Merse’s comments.

“Contrary to some people who want to be in the news and telling things that are not true, I am really happy at the club. You know me quite well, so you know me enough to know that I am really happy. Difficult? Yes. Difficult. But if it wasn’t difficult then it wouldn’t be for me. I like the players. I like who they are. I like the boys that they are. I like very much the relationship I have with them, so I am really happy. If you see a bad face from me it’s because of a bad result. I cannot change myself after a bad result. It’s difficult for me to smile. But that’s just me. The reality is that I am happy. I am very happy and I look forward to what is coming. But I look even more forward to the next season.”

With so many issues surrounding Spurs at the moment given our tumble from grace, plenty of fans probably won’t be inclined to believe that Mourinho is as happy as he claims he is, and plenty will wonder if Merse unwittingly touched a nerve given the reaction.

With that said, Spurs are prime candidates in the media for speculation and plenty of the claims are lazy at best, so there will be those that appreciate Mourinho’s efforts to try and shut the claims down so quickly.
