Match Thread – Spurs Shouldn’t Be The Villans This Weekend

|

Although Tottenham Hotspur saw their ‘Winter Break’ interrupted owing to the FA Cup fourth round replay against Southampton, we took another much needed victory to book our place in the next round of the competition and with back to back wins under our belt once more, we’ll be hoping to see further improvement when we return to the pitch this weekend against Aston Villa.

The opening tie against the Premier League returners was a tricky affair to say the least, but we took a late 3-1 victory in the end as we opened our year up, and there are certainly reasons for positivity ahead of this one, as despite a reasonable scoring record, Villa certainly let plenty in at the other end of the pitch.

With a good few days off in the lead up to the game, players should be refreshed but we’ll have to see what the state of play is with any new injuries. Victory would push us back into fifth place in the table ahead of the impressive Sheffield United, so here’s hoping and back to back league wins would definitely give everyone a nice boost.

Aston Villa...

Good effort to get back to draw 2-2 but defending was awful and it took until about 60 minutes to start playing.

    Off topic again…

I want to reply to a conversation that Muttley and Harry-Karri are having on the forum but I am unable to log in.

The Granada TV play that you’re both referring to is; “Another Sunday and Sweet F.A.” By Jack Rosenthal.

    And it’s right here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngWcHGGrKLQ

The game v Villa is another one of our “on wards and up wards” scenario’s we find ourselves in, with another win, one way or another.

We have an almost fully fit squad to pick from, so am going to play name that team….

    Lloris

    Aurier…Sanny…Toby…Tangy

    N’Dombele…Winks…Lo-Celso

    Bergs…Parrot…Son

With a nice bench to pick from, game changers available. Got my Spurs hat on. COYS

PY… team choice I expect…Lloris, Aurier, Sancgz Toby Tanguy, (sub Davies) Bergs, Winks, Lo Celso, Maura Dele Sonny.

Dele son swapping as Striker Moura and Gio, behind them. COYS a 2-0 win for us.

block 108…great minds in team selection, though I did have a little dream fancy regards playing Parrot, mind his time will come. COYS

  • Geofspurs says:

TQ … To my shame I have to admit being a Chelsea women’s supporter. I’m sure you know why!

    • TQ2Spurs says:

Geof…..yes I know why, shame we didn’t have the ambition to bring her to Spurs, I’m happy for you to have Chelsea as your second team though.

  • Geofspurs says:

Not sure why there is any concern/doubt about this result. We may not be playing our best football at the moment but look at the team we could field. Villa 0 – 3 Spurs!

I’m guessing this post will come up some time after my previous post which is still in the queue. It’s a bit like buses.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Hoping the break has refreshed the players and not allowed cobwebs to form, they shouldn’t have lost much in the way of physical sharpness in the space of a week or so but having rightly switched off mentally to relax let’s hope they can get switched back on immediately.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Wow…….Man City banned from CL for two seasons and fined £25m for breaching FFP rules!

    • PompeyYid says:

Its called cheating and fraud or bending the rules, but caught with hands in the sweety jar lol! COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

That should mean Pep will move on.

  • 123spurs says:

Let’s see if pep loves the city or not, he’s over rated as a manager, everything on a plate for him.

  • Geofspurs says:

TQ …. So does that mean if we finish 5th this season we are in the CL? That could be really significant.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I’m not sure how this will affect qualification from the PL Geof, maybe HT or someone else might be able to throw some light on it?

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Geof, I now understand that the fifth place finishers will qualify for next seasons CL should City finish in the top four. This would of course be subject to the outcome of any appeal City make to the court for arbitration in sport.

We could indeed be beneficiaries of this punishment but it could also give hope to others around us as well resulting in a tougher fight for fourth and fifth places!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Some interesting rumours doing the rounds today that would be good if true:

Report suggests we are interested in signing Dean Henderson from Manu, I believe this would be a very good move, his performances for the Blades have been sensational for a kid who is just 22 I believe.

Reports also linking Manu and Everton with a move for Dier, if we could screw the former to overpay as they usually do to the tune of about £60m I think it would be very good business!

  • PompeyYid says:

City appeal = who has the deepest pockets for lawyers, MC or UEFA, am not holding my breath to see MC remaining banned. COYS

  • jod says:

TQ2Spurs – Given corruption is endemic in both football and the Middle East I wouldn’t count on City actually being punished for what they’ve done. Its not like rugby where Saracens were relegated for breaking the salary cap. I’ll continue to assume we need fourth place, if it turns out fifth will do that will be a pleasant surprise.

    • PompeyYid says:

      jod…spot on there.

No matter what goes on outside Spurs, our target for this season is 4th in the Prem and the FA Cup final. COYS

  • Hot Tottingham says:

False accounting (which City’s owners have been accused of) is fraud. In the real world this is obviously considered a serious criminal offence in which (for the likes of us mere mortals) can and, very likely would, end with a custodial sentence.

Of course, Mansour through his families myriad of business concerns will not suffer court convictions or any serious financial setbacks due to this. But Man City as a club, Pep, it’s players and more importantly, it’s supporters, will be the ones to be most affected. Even so, it doesn’t take away their recent successes on the football pitch. It doesn’t take back the PL titles or the cups.

Many football supporters don’t seem to really have much of a moral care or fair-play stance where on the pitch success is concerned (and how it’s gained). and yet will often lay into players and managers if they are not seen to behave like saintly role models all of the time. And yet many Spurs supporters will often lay into our owners for not being more like the country owning, all powerfulSheik Mansour or, the less than clean, criminally inclined Roman Abramovich.

Those two are seemingly ignored for their own personal greed and praised for their apparent generosity of football club funding. And as though it were simply from the kindness of their hearts. And apparently because they have a “winners” mentality. This is of course is used against ENIC, Levy and Lewis… “Why can’t they be more generous to THFC?” ” Why can’t they be football “winners”, not losers?” ” Why can’t they be like this by being more charitable in their personal funding of THFC?” Etc, etc… Alternatively; Why can’t they be more fraudulent? More criminal? More like er… Abramovich and Mansour!

BUT… “ENIC are all about personal profit and selfish gain”; I here some say. Abramovich and Mansour are all about winning! Not about the money! Not about personal gain at all. Not about business. Not about themselves…. It’s all about the football, the supporters, the club… So, these two multi billionaires aren’t some of this? These two multi billionaires aren’t about personal gain? They are not about the business. it’s all about the soccer, all about the game.. Yeah, of course it is!

And Chelsea and City supporters are not naive, are they? Not blind? Not morally ignorant. Not all about cups! Not all about the money but definitely, all about the glory… Just like their multi-billionaire owners… Just like you and me… But not Levy and Lewis. Not Alan Sugar. Not anyone who isn’t a ‘WINNER”!

Talking of winning… It’s true! Villa 1-4 Spurs! Spurs 2-0 RB Leipzig! Chelsea 0-3 Spurs!

Hey! Hands up who would love to run around a lot at WHL for Spurs, for free? Just for one day. For the Glory… Not the money, money, money!

Meanwhile, in a land VAR, VAR away… Football, is just a game….

  • Geofspurs says:

PY …. Don’t give up on the CL too soon, mate.

  • block 108 spurs says:

HT… a good long written post there. Took a while for the powers that be…. to do something about the financial regulations “bending”. Looks like PSG is next up for a dose of the same medicine city had.

As you say, fans have said for years ENIC out.. Levy out… now we see that the ethical business model Levy / Joe etc. have done at THFC over the last 19 years is the correct side of the regulations. But a rebuilding of the club and infrastructure (enfield training ground WHL stadium)has taken a good 8 years longer (archway steel etc.) I would think that all fans of football fair play will applaud UEFA.. unless they are city fans…. It was announced recently THFC is 8th richest club in Europe now. COYS

  • Niall D says:

Imagine that Man city exposed as financial cheats. Does this not mean any trophy or title won was won unfairly. So any monies gained from said titles or CL progression should be repaid. As in the Olympics they should be stripped of any title, banned from euro comps and be on a 24 point deduction next season. If not relegated a devision.

    • PompeyYid says:

Niall D….couldn’t agree more with your post at 7.26pm, but as you know it will not happen, as cheating in football always prospers. COYS
