Following a 1-1 draw at St Mary’s Stadium in the FA Cup fourth round tie, Tottenham Hotspur welcomed Southampton back to White Hart Lane earlier this evening for the replay decider.
With an unexpected 2-0 victory over Manchester City in our last game, optimism was high for the tie.
And we even took the lead 12 minutes in as Jack Stephens was credited with an own goal, but given Southampton were completely on top in reality, it wasn’t a surprise to see them equalise as ‘goal machine’ Shane Long sent them into the break level.
Things didn’t really change second half and going into the final 25 minutes we were barely registering 40% of the possession and we’d still only managed one shot on target (whereas they’d had six!) and inside of the final 20 minutes they made it count to take the lead through Danny Ings.
We weren’t done yet though, six minutes later Lucas Moura proved his worth and had the leveller and there was a slight improvement, but not exactly something you’d shout about. With the award of a late penalty three minutes from time, with Son Heung-Min making it 3-2 from the spot – that was definitely worth shouting about and the question was, could we hold on.
We did, so onto Norwich but hardly awe-inspiring.

TQ …. I agree. The money in football these days is obscene. In the future players are going to go mental when they have already bought everything they want and don’t know where to spend their weekly earnings. : – )
I think that already applies Geof! :- )
Not sure if this link will work ( https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7988441/Harry-Redknapp-Alan-Mullery-reasons-Jimmy-Greaves-knighted.html ) but it does sum Jimmy up. I expect most of you have already seen it.
The game Cliff mentions against Leicester is one of the first things I think of when it comes to JG’s many goals. The game was just before I left England and I was so thankful that he left me with that memory. I can still see the newspaper pictures showing half of the opposition defence laying on the ground across midfield as Jimmy, who has just floated around the GK, side-foots the ball into an empty net. AWESOME!
Geofspurs….thanks for that, but just one of many excellent memories of our Jimmy. COYS
