Match Thread – Spurs Seeking Wings As We Leipzig Back Into Champions League Action

|

With Tottenham Hotspur lifting themselves back into the mandatory European places with victory over Aston Villa at the weekend, it did mark our fourth match unbeaten in the top flight, along with three wins on the spin and although Chairman Daniel Levy (and many fans) will breathe a sigh of relief at Europa League football given where we were only a few weeks ago, from a financial point of view it will still be a massive hit to take compared to Champions League revenue.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

But on the topic of the Champions League, this midweek sees us back in action in the Round of 16 and we welcome RB Leipzig to White Hart Lane and given the earlier rumour mill speculation linking us and manager Jose Mourinho with an interest in Dayot Upamecano, we can certainly expect to see his name on the newsfeeds again this week.

For most fans, they will also be paying him slightly more attention just in case the rumours about the French Under 21 international are true.

As for us and this game though, we will just be hoping to keep our more recent run of form going and pick up another victory with further performance improvements to help keep lifting the spirits.

All eyes to 8pm and fingers crossed.

RB Leipzig...

Not the result we hoped for but many positives to take from the match, especially the last 20 minutes. I’m loving Lo Celso particularly but I think once our new players gel we are going to be a real threat going forwards. Just need to sort out out RB and LCB.

    First half was almost commentless!

That was so disappointing…..so many times this season n the end of last season being outplayed and outclassed at home. These are the games you hope your manager has the tactics.

    • Stan Rosenthal says:

Jose’s tactics were the same as those against Man City Ossie.. Worked that time, didn’t work this time for the reasons given in my previous comment. Would have liked to have seen more pressing earlier though.

Much fairer comment from you TQ2 than the slagging off we got from BT Sports ex-Spurs pundits and the slagging off we can expect from the Jose haters here. Little account taken of the Son shock to the system and the time needed for the team to adjust to the new situation. Not to mention being up against one of the best teams in Europe and their goal coming from a penalty being given away by a player returning from months of injury. As you say TQ2 many positives in the last twenty minutes with Lo Celso showing he has the making of being world class, N’Dombele looking like the powerhouse we need in central midfield , a creditable performance from Stevie boy in his Euro baptism of fire, and Lamela making a real difference in attack. If we can build on these positives we may yet get something out of this season despite the setbacks

Though I did rant n rave a bit Lol! at the tv last night, many more positives came out of the game as the negatives, the negatives will be ironed out and after watching that last 20mins I believe we can still make the next round. COYS
