Match Thread – Let’s Hope Spurs Don’t Have Another LASK Gasp In This Match

|

The trials and tribulations of football – how things can change in 45 minutes (or even ten!) for Tottenham Hotspur. After the West Ham capitulation on Sunday evening, we now head into the Europa League Group J clash with LASK.

The LASK gasp comments write themselves after this one, as confidence must have taken a knock and far outweigh the positives we should’ve taken from the last clash at White Hart Lane. We simply have to dust ourselves off and get ready to go again and hope it was simply a blip and that we learn that we can’t become complacent – regardless of what our recent form has been like.

With ongoing good form between Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane, and Sergio Reguilon again showing he can definitely be a threat from the left, we also have to consider Gareth Bale getting a 20 minute run out and what that will do for his own form, confidence and fitness.

I know little about our next opponents, but it’s not my job to get the team bang up for this.

Let’s hope we put the Spammers into the rearview with a performance we had started to expect from Jose Mourinho’s side.

LASK...

Win

Draw

Lose

Hi Danny thanks for the thread.
At least their not in the back end of Europe.
Hopefully we’ll come out after Sundays shocker in a positive way and sweep these guys aside.
We may just get the Lask laugh. Ohhhhh

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Oh, come on Danny, get with it mate! 🙂

    • Danny Winter says:

If I couldn’t work technology 20 years ago, I’m utterly stuffed now TQ2. I genuinely don’t know how to do it lol I don’t even know how to do that little square box!

      • TQ2Spurs says:

Danny….you obviously didn’t follow the lessons I provided on a thread a couple of weeks back! lol

  • jod says:

Interesting how the West Ham game is viewed. Its a disaster. If we’d gone three down and come back to get a draw it would have been a triumph. But either way its one point. If we want to win things that’s how we need to view it, two points dropped, another game in a few days, that’s the one we need to focus on. Obviously we want to win, for me I also want top see us using the squad intelligently because otherwise our best players won’t last the season (again). I’m less concerned about the performance. At this stage of the season playing twice a week its just about grinding out wins.

It does my heart good to see the supporter movements encouraging donations to food banks rather than cough up even more money to Sky and BT for pay-per-view games. Will they get the message it sends? I doubt it, they will continue to fleece football fans.

  • PompeyYid says:

Danny…thanks again for the quick turn over match threads, keeps ya busy eh!

jod….100% with you there, esp about grinding out results at this stage of the season.

TQ2S….good post there, and of course that new political party called Sky/BT, doubt it very much whether they will get the message.

So its Thursday night v Lask, time to be well up for it lads, esp’ after unlucky Sunday. COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

LASK have scored just 5 goals but also conceded just 5 in their 4 league games so far this season, this suggests a pretty dour match is in the offing, let’s hope not and we can continue our free scoring form while at the same time improving our defence and game management strategy.

Looking ahead….. our next three league games are against Burnley, Brighton, and West Brom who currently sit 18th, 16th and 17th respectively in the table. They have 1 win and 4 draws between them in 14 games so far so anything less than 9 points will be disappointing considering the three games following that are City, Chelsea, and Arsenal!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Where are you HT, are you OK? I know you prefer not to be involved in the mud slinging and negativity that results from games like Sundays but we do value your reflections on these games.

  • Niall D says:

    Good Post Jod.
It shows how far we’ve come when we’re so annoyed about a draw.
I know it was the nature of it last minute goal blah De blah.
But recent history against the ‘Spammers we’ve won a few drwan a few lost a few.
Over the years at times they were as good as us.
After Sunday, we are light years ahead of them if they came away thinking they had played well.
They were lucky plain and simple.
Upwards and on wards the Spammers are in the rear view mirror.
On Thursday a rotation would go down well, would like to see Vinny get a game and maybe as HT suggested some posts ago, give Davies a slot at LCB.
No HT or EJ for a while hope you are both OK
Even the “K” word didn’t bring a response from EJ.
On the PPV thing I think it’s disgraceful.
If they set the games at around £6:00 and £10:00 for the bigger game, don’t they realise that they would get a much larger audience and there fore a larger remuneration.
    But they’re just greedy.
We’ll they ain’t getting any of my dosh.
Is it any wonder people buy these fire stick things.

Not been able keep a clean sheet is a big worry.

  • Geofspurs says:

TQ … Now you just know that we will lose the first three of those games before winning the last three. It would be way too easy otherwise. : – )

    • PompeyYid says:

Geofspurs….haha just the right sort of thinking. COYS

    • TQ2Spurs says:

I think I would be reasonably happy with say 12 points from the 6 games Geof, don’t really care which games the points come from! :- )

  • Niall D says:

Just read an item on Football 365 which just about sums us up.
It stated that we (Spurs) have the application to beat the likes of Man U , Man C etc, but when it comes to the likes of Newcastle or W/Ham we seem to lack that same application or concentration as we view them as lesser teams and to a degree switch off.
Hence the results. It went on to suggest we are (sort of) strutting round like title contenders with little to back it up.
There are parts of this I agree with. I have just been guilty myself of saying we are above W/Ham.
Perhaps we do need that extra focus against those outside “the big six”.
However I don’t think we’re strutting round but I do feel we are in with a chance at the title or at least top 4.

Having recovered from the horror of last 10mins of sundays game… and a friend who is a west ham fan annual joyous banter of taking points off spurs…. and not commentating on Jose’s subs. choice. Simply I say, jose went for the goals (with bale’s lack of match fitness / form showing) and not defending the 3-0 lead.

Europa League on thursday….So i expect the squad will be rotated again, dele, lamela bale etc. playing, players should have had a verbal battering from Jose, and be up too strong for Lask. Hopefully ! COYS

  • Geofspurs says:

TQ …. 12 points from 6 games is a fair return. The target throughout the season should be to average 2 points a game. That would normally ensure CL football next season. We’re a bit behind now but, with so many games left, there is no reason to panic.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Guess who has got a penalty this evening and given 2 attempts to score it! lol

  • Niall D says:

I told you all its looking like a fix. Now how many is that over what 5 games and I’d say they’ve been given 4 pens. If that was, a pen tonight what was Bale’s on Sunday. Just look at the challenge on him.
I’m telling you there is a conspiricy in favour of this team.
If they can’t win by hook. It’s actually now embarrassing.
I was listening to an Everton fan on Talk Sport saying that there is a fix to exclude other teams from the top six I’m starting to believe it.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Blimey, it’s a bit quiet here since the initial reaction to Sundays game!

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

If there is a conspiracy to exclude certain teams from the top six how come Leicester got there last season. There is no conspiracy – there was no penalty for Bale. We failed to win on Sunday because we are not good enough.

  • Niall D says:

    DH
I’m not saying it was a pen. What I am saying is compared with the decisions other teams get we had a shout. Did you look at it again. The W/Ham player fell all over Bale and certainly didn’t play the ball.
Even in DH world I think you need to admit that Man U have gotten an excessive amount of pens both last season and the season before. It also looks like their getting more than their fair share again this year. If you look at last nights one the United player just fell as if shot.
And we are good enough just not lucky enough.
We were good enough 2 weeks ago against ManU even with their usual pen.
You were pretty quiet then. Loved JM was your quote.
Look m8 it’s just football and sometimes that’s the way it pans out just like we did against City and Ajax in the CL.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Actually Niall I was not quiet after the Man U match. Yes Man U have got a lot of penalties recently. That’s just the way it goes. And in love honesty I don’t think we are good enough and I don’t think we were unlucky against West Ham. Apart from the first 15 minutes I thought we were very poor. We may even have lost if Fornels hadn’t missed an absolute sitter early in the second half, we were really lucky there. I wonder how will will cope when Kane or Son have an off day because apart from those two we don’t seem to have much to offer.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

It’s one strange season alright, RM 3 down at half-time at home to Shaktar!
