Match Thread – Let’s Hope Spurs Don’t Have Another LASK Gasp In This Match

|

The trials and tribulations of football – how things can change in 45 minutes (or even ten!) for Tottenham Hotspur. After the West Ham capitulation on Sunday evening, we now head into the Europa League Group J clash with LASK.

The LASK gasp comments write themselves after this one, as confidence must have taken a knock and far outweigh the positives we should’ve taken from the last clash at White Hart Lane. We simply have to dust ourselves off and get ready to go again and hope it was simply a blip and that we learn that we can’t become complacent – regardless of what our recent form has been like.

With ongoing good form between Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane, and Sergio Reguilon again showing he can definitely be a threat from the left, we also have to consider Gareth Bale getting a 20 minute run out and what that will do for his own form, confidence and fitness.

I know little about our next opponents, but it’s not my job to get the team bang up for this.

Let’s hope we put the Spammers into the rearview with a performance we had started to expect from Jose Mourinho’s side.

    What DH
Have you forgotten that in the Fergie era there was a spell of 10 years that the away team never got a pen. Do you remember Fergie time.
I’m still saying that they are given more than their fair share of “soft” pens.
And it ain’t just me saying it.
I would ask you even to look at the highlights of the W/Ham match and just how much they featured in those highlights. Very little.
Accept that they were lucky, we were unlucky.
But not good enough to beat them sorry no.
We weren’t poor, we had a bad spell in a game which they were able to capitalise on by both luck and some bad play.
By the same token re your Fornels analogy, if Kane hit the target or Bale hit the target.
Then we’re 5-4c up even with Fornels.
You can’t call Fornels without calling Bale and Kane.
What happened was we thought we were home and dry we took our eye of the ball again st a, “lesser” team and got caught out . It doesn’t make us poor or bad.
Re Kane and Son, if they are having an off day we now have Vinny to come in.
Prediction, we will win a trophy this year and finish at least top 4, poor teams don’t do that.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Niall D, please explain why we were unlucky. I don’t understand that just because we missed one more chance than West Ham that we were unlucky. If anything we were lucky in that Fornels chance was an absolute sitter. Sitting back and inviting pressure doesn’t make you unlucky, it just makes you stupid.
Also re the conspiracy in favour of United, can you please explain who you think is organizing the conspiracy and to what end. I am really interested.

    • Stan Rosenthal says:

To spell it out very simply we were unlucky because any shot on the run outside the box that curls into the top right hand corner of the net through a packed defence is lucky. More so since the chap who did it was not a Ronaldo or a Messi but someone who hasn’t scored in yonks. And to cap it all the shot went in with second to go. Clear enough?

  • Niall D says:

Yep sorry DH you’re right we were crap as you usually say about us.
Yep Westham out played us the whole game we created nothing. We had 3 lucky goals and two lucky near misses.
Where as their goals were down to fantastic play by Westham they played us off the pitch.
    I’ve got it wrong.
There has never been any Fergie time in Man U games.
And they haven’t been awarded the most premiership pens two seasons running.
Sorry M8 your opinion is right.

  • PompeyYid says:

Good morning DonnyH, I believe no matter what anyone says that is a little bit pro-Spurs you will always find fault, and that is because of your incessant hatred of JM, which is fair enough as its your opinion.

ND, says conspiracy, whether you believe it or not, I call it a bias, but to get a penalty in 80 to 90% of their games says it all, nobody else does, its as simple as that, something stinks here.

Fornels sitter was only that if he expected a cross that was driven across so hard, which I believe he didn’t, as for Kane’s post hitter 99% of the time that would have been a goal, and regards Bale he was pushed in the area to stop him scoring thus a pen, guess what would have happened if that had been a MU player?

And we did take our eye off the ball in the 2nd, esp in the last 10/15 mins, which was lucky for Spam, that was 100% wrong because as the old saying goes, we are old enough to remember this, “It ain’t over till the fat lady sings”

None the less, WE are going to win tonight. COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Good post PY, I also think we will get a decent win tonight despite LASK appearing to be a side that keeps things tight with few goals scored and few conceded.

  • Geofspurs says:

Prediction …. First half score 6-0, second half score 0-3. Overall difference 3-0. I think that covers all the bases!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

It’s going to be interesting finding out our line-up for the game, the centre of defence largely picks itself due to availability but the rest is up for grabs.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

My best guess at the starting eleven:

    Hart
    Doherty Toby Sanchez Davies
    Lo Celso Winks Dele
    Moura Vinicius Lamela

Doherty likely to push forward to make more of a 343

  • 123spurs says:

What’s unlucky about letting in 3 goals from 82nd minute. Only lucky thing is that it was the last kick of the game, if there was another 2 minutes we probably would of lost.

  • Niall D says:

    Yep PY
    Great Post there.
Maybe worded it too strongly a couple of posts ago but something stinks. Certainly.
The Bale chance I personally think was not a pen, but if that was Martial rushing into the box for ManU, guess what….
That was what I was alluding to.
    Stan 100% post.
Perhaps the way some posters think negatively about our team is the way I feel re ManU.
As I said before it’s like a religion over here and their supporters don’t care how they win, they just think its their god given rite to be top. Believe it or not its almost a blessing over here just to see a Chelsea or Arsenal fan coz at least they didn’t follow the rest of the plebs.
They are the most supported team in the world like it or not and therefore a valuable product for football in general and the Premiership in particular world wide, I’m only suggesting that it wouldn’t do for that valuable product to languish around the bottom of the league or be kicked out in early stages of a competition.
But as I said I’m wrong.
Re Westham and luck, I think David Moyes “wee dance” around the end of the game says it all.
    Now that’s stupid.
We’ll hopefully our rubbish team will edge past the opposition
With 3 Lask minute goals, and we’ll be brilliant, according to some….
Sorry HT and Geoff if you’re reading but you’re right sometimes you just gatta be
Trust your are all keeping safe and well. Looking forward to tonight.
    COYS.

    • TQ2Spurs says:

Niall, you wrote “With 3 Lask minute goals”…………..was that a deliberate play on words? lol

  • PompeyYid says:

    Geofspurs, simple hahaha post.

TQ2S, yep I think you could be right there overall, but with one change, I think Our Arry will kick off and Vinicius will come on at half time. whatever still a team/side to good for our opponents Lask.

ND, you keep up your posts, to strongly NO! your opinion mate, nobody with any balls about them will be offended, you are only seeing it as you see it, me and MU = total hatred! it goes back many many years, and there is something fishy going on regards them and pens.

So am up for a convincing win tonight. COYS

    • TQ2Spurs says:

PY…..I know HK wants to play every game but I am working on the principle that Jose might be seen as being somewhat hypocritical if he starts him in every game after his comments aimed at the national coach about him being over played.

  • Niall D says:

    Cheers PY
Would like to see Bale get a good hour at least and Vinny get a second half.
    COYS.

  • PompeyYid says:

As is all quiet on the VS front, am going to play name that team….

    Hart
    Doherty…Toby…Sanchez…Davies
    Lo-Celso…Winks…Dele
    Lamela…Kane…Bale

Similar to TQ2S’s team but with 2 changes. COYS

  • PompeyYid says:

Is that right we can make 5 substitutions tonight if we want to. COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

haha…… PY, I can’t believe I forgot Bale! In that case I would swap him for Moura in my predicted starting 11 but still keep Vinicius as main striker. We can keep HK10 as a super sub if needed.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

The only problem with my new line-up is that both Bale and Lamela like to play on the right and cut in onto their left foot.

  • block 108 spurs says:

TQ2 From what I have seen from Bale since he was at WHL and Rm.. He plays on left side more than right side. Also his right foot is strong as well, so I would say Bale is ambifooted. Lamela is the one who usually plays on the right side of the pitch.

As to posts on here we all have our opinion and can say this even if others don’t agree. Certain people were totally against Jose when he was appointed manager…. too defensive… arrogant etc. Spurs results and tactical shapes have produced results and exciting play. Which goes against critics. So I hope jose and players continue their progress. COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Hi block…..regarding Bale I am going by the recent interview with Jose where he said he asked GB where he preferred to play and he replied on the right, indeed, this is where he played when he came on against the spammers. Of course, as you say, he is better known for playing on the left historically.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Just for the record, I never said that West Ham outplayed us. My point all along has been that we were not unlucky. We got what we deserved for sitting back after half an hour and asking West Ham back into the game. I also haven’t denied that Man U get a lot of penalties, I was merely pointing out that to call it a conspiracy is absolute nonsense. I’ve asleep never said we are rubbish, It is obvious that we have some outstanding players.I just don’t like Jose’s tactics or his demeanour as a manger.
Re tonight’s game we must use the squad and rest most of the players who played on Sunday. We have an incredibly demanding schedule and we need to use the squad fully before we get any injuries and not wait until the injuries come before we rotate. COYS

  • Geofspurs says:

Bale did have fun playing on the left against Inter. We all want to see more of that. I don’t think he should start in this one …. maybe come on for the second half as it will take him a few more games to get match fit, no matter what he does in training.
