“Your Move Levy” “Back To Leeds On A Free” – Player Confirms More Behind The Scenes Issues For Spurs

|

Tottenham Hotspur and England fullback Danny Rose has never been slow in coming forward when he has something to say and it’s always mixed the fanbase between those who feel he disrespects the club, and those that admire his honesty.

This week, he’s done it again, and claimed effectively that talk of summer bids for him were ‘rubbish’ and he knows what people were trying to do at that point – as he was also more than keenly aware that he wouldn’t be handed a new deal at the club, as Daniel Levy had already confirmed that to him previously.

“It’s pretty obvious what happened. People upstairs at Tottenham were trying to do what they were trying to do. I’ve said I’ve got 18 months left on my contract and I’m not going anywhere until my contract has finished. Daniel Levy told me in the summer there was no new contract for me at Tottenham, which is fine. I respect that. We move on. My contract is up in 18 months’ time and I’ll leave the football club then. People can save their time trying to get stuff ready for January about me being sold because I can tell you now; it isn’t happening. I know what people were trying to do in the summer; there were no bids, that was rubbish.”

There will undoubtedly be those fans who continue to support Rose for his efforts in our shirt, but there are definitely those who feel that this is now a completely sour ending to his time with us, that he’s basically holding the club to ransom and that it may say everything when it comes to why our form has fallen off a cliff this year.

Rose added.

“I’m lucky to have a manager at Tottenham who, from the first day we met, has always stuck by me, regardless of the rubbish in the media about me being sold or not part of his plans – all that nonsense.”

The wider debate will undoubtedly be, has Levy brought this on himself, or does it show modern footballers for what they are? I guess, wider than that, does manager Mauricio Pochettino have a deeper excuse given all the games going on behind closed doors, as that is some strong praise for him from Rose.

Answers on a postcard – your guess is as good as mine – but some of the reaction has been over the top given this is the modern game and it’s certainly nothing new.
