‘Yes’ – 59% of polled fans want Tottenham to sign 29-year-old to replace Mousa Dembele

|

Mousa Dembele has left Tottenham to join Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F on a three-year deal, leaving Mauricio Pochettino with somewhat of a midfield crisis.

Victor Wanyama is recovering from a knee injury, Moussa Sissoko is suffering from a groin injury and Eric Dier is recovering from appendicitis. It leaves Harry Winks and Dele Alli as the only central midfielders available to Pochettino, meaning a new signing looks nailed on in January.

Paris Saint-Germain are looking at Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye as a potential replacement for Barcelona-bound Adrien Rabiot, but should Tottenham also register their interest? Gueye boasts high levels of work rate and is expert at turning over possession. Fans would back a move too.

The 29-year-old has made 19 Premier League appearances for Everton this season, averaging a tackle or interception every 13 minutes. He also makes more than 50 passes per game (83.7% completion ratio) and boasts a 91% dribble success rate.

Gueye shares many similarities to Dembele, but whether Tottenham make an approach for his signature remains to be seen. He won’t come cheap, with reports suggesting an asking price of £40m, but the midfielder could be a good addition to the squad nevertheless.
