It was interesting watching the England games, especially as they were basically playing the same formation we do. Which makes me wonder, given the well documented struggles of England defenders, why Dier isn’t even in the squad. Watching Walker-Peters you have to ask whether we got rid of him too soon, its not as if any of his replacements have exactly set the ground on fire. When people talk about adding a “creative” player I do get nervous. But we saw two players who would clearly fit into Conte’s system and add something in Connor Gallagher and Jude Bellingham, no chance of getting either unfortunately. Conversely England’s wide attacking options are arguably worse than ours. Your two wide attackers need to score goals, not just the centre forward. Son has been brilliant over the years, the only England player you can even compare to him is Sterling. Grealish, Foden, Mount all look like boxers with great feet but no punch, I wouldn’t swap Kulusevski for any of them.

Kulusevski above Foden Jod. An interesting opinion. Much as I have been impressed with Kulusevski, I would take Foden ahead of him. Not sure about any of the others though.

So let me get it right, there is little point in us debating players on a web site about football.
Then we have a player (in Foden) who has won the league and several other trophies, has gotten to the Euro finals in the England squad where he is an established international.
But he’s not as good as a player (Kulu) whom Jod said wasn’t next level in January.
    Is it me???

Niall D – So as far as you are concerned the team a player is in doesn’t matter ? Foden is brilliant because City have won things, having people like De Bruyne in the team makes no difference. To me Foden is a player in search of a position. At the very top level he doesn’t score enough goals to be a forward, isn’t fast enough to be a winger and doesn’t work hard enough to be a midfield player. Connor Gallagher looked much better in the Swiss game both defending and attacking. It works for him at City where he is one of about twenty in their squad who play in their style of constantly switching positions. Put him in our squad and he’d disappear. Against the Swiss he was pretty anonymous but then arguably England are also less talented than City.

Jod I refer you to your own comment of march 21, re players playing CL football, he (Foden) is either good enough to play at that level, or not, he obviously is or Pep can’t see a good player.
Foden has been part of one of the most successful England teams in recent times, has won the league and several other trophies been at several finals, he’s not a “bit part” player I’m actually not a massive fan, but he is an integral part of two very successful teams both club and Country.
    But you’re right, he’s sh1t. 🙄
