  • Hot Tottingham says:

Yeah! In order to attract good enough players to win Spurs the PL or CL., Spurs will need to win either the PL or the CL!

    We’re doomed!

  • PompeyYid says:

Son was involved in all 4 goals, scoring 2, forcing our third highest scorer OG, and effing poor marking for their goal, get goal side of him you knob, but my mom was Bents closely followed by Kulu!

Bents in his position was excellent, he went about his business brilliantly, he was way better than Rice n Soucek, basically he controlled the middle thus winning the battle.

When was the last time we had a player that ruled the midfield?

Kulu what an addition to our front line, a marauding Viking, everywhere, plus he is bringing the best out of Doh! what we have been waiting for since signing him from Wolves. COYS

  • Niall D says:

    Yeah PY
But Jod says they’re not next level he said this after watching them for 20 min in their first game.
An old work colleague of mine once said always go into meeting or seminar thinking you’re the most stupid person in it, by the time you leave, you realise you’re not.
I tend to do this every time in these threads.
For me mate your right about Bents and Dekki.
Yeah Jod you’ll certainly attract top players finishing 6th or 7th.
    Maybe it’s me 🙄

    • PompeyYid says:

Niall, definately a very true saying! works every time mate.

      • Love totty says:

I think that we are a long way off building a squad capable of a credible challenge for the title, but have made a step towards staying in the mix for a top 4 place this season and hopefully more competitively next. It will all depend on how Levy coughs up, and Conte feels supported. Obviously the process will be easier if we get 4th this year but 5th could still satisfy Conte if the backing is there to improve the squad to his liking. Rome wasn’t built in a day, I guess he knows that ha ha..

  • 123spurs says:

Arsenal have a lot tougher games then we do

  • Allan says:

    Basically 123
We need to win at least 8 of our final games esp the Arsenal match to stand any chance of a 4th place .
I understand the argument that success breeds success but I feel that with the way Conte has set us up and his own persona will attract more than not .
If he / DOF can sell the idea of the club ( no mention of Levy please ) and demonstrate how the playing side is developing esp if we can keep Kane and finish higher than last year then players could be persuaded to join us .
However money can be far more important than final position in the league so unless suitable money is forthcoming then we could be back to square 1 with Conte leaving .

  • Niall D says:

    Hi Allan
Just saw your last post, and I think it’s a bit of it all.
If we show improvement, a plan, direction, tactics, and a willingness to win and play as a team, then under Conte we can lure that next level player, provided the finincial package is there.
For me players want three things,in the game now, success, finance and to a degree fame.
But I do agree it could fall like a house of cards if Conte were to leave.
I do feel that we are on the cusp of something as good if not better than Poch’s time with us, if the person you don’t want mentioned doesn’t fek it up again.

  • 123spurs says:

Of course a cup would be nice to win but conte goal is to get top4, if it doesnt happen this season, will he stay and get a few new players and give it another shot next season

    • PompeyYid says:

Hope you are right there 123!

Back him in the summer and what you say will be correct. COYS

  • Niall D says:

I know it’s the old press merry go round thing, but I notice us linked with the former Chelsea player Cuardeo (spelling), he’s out of contract over the summer and is 32 ish, for me that’s the kind of stand in we need for Kane, may be to change the game up after 70 mins.
With that said he has had a pretty decent season this year, but he is that older more experienced player who still has something to give at top level.
For me worth a punt if its true.

  • PompeyYid says:

Just a thought, can’t remember if 2 incidents were mentioned earlier….

Antonio’s attack, elbow to the boatrace of Dier in the 1st half, 100% red.

Reggies penalty claim in the 2nd, push in his back.

Both incidents not looked at/reviewed by VAR.

Any points on them from my fellow Yids. COYS

  • Niall D says:

    Yep PY
If it were Man U there’d be a red for Antonio and a pen given.
Plus a two hour inquisition by Alan Shearer and Linker, then a follow up on Football Focus, with Alex (I can’t pronounce “G”) and “sour bake” Lawro.
But for us as usual, no VAR, pundits, nil, nada, nothing or for Alex nuthin.
BTW, all clear now happy days.

    • PompeyYid says:

Haha Niall, you did note them then, though it was just me and my White n Blue tinted specs lol! everything exactly as you said, no bias from the media there then lol!

Today I read Antonio said he couldn’t understand why Reggie did get a red for that baby slap he did on one of their defenders, deflection me thinks lol!

Also glad to hear your free of the “dreaded lergie” ditto Mrs PY. COYS

  • Niall D says:

    Hi PY
Happy to hear your missus is thru’ the worst of it, I’ve been like a monk for 2 years, I didn’t see any of my m8s, didn’t gigg, didn’t meet my ex work chums, wife goes to dentist and catches it , may as well just went every where.
    We’ll I’m going out now. 😉
Glad you and the rest of the posters didn’t catch it, to you Geoff, and others who posted words of support many thanks folks.

    • PompeyYid says:

      Niall thanks for that.

Bet you will be like a Bear wiv a sore head coming out of hibernation, where has the time gone? 2 years makes you wonder eh! COYS

  • wentworth says:

Seems as though there are some good goalscoring strikers and midfield players around and available. Hmmm..Gareth Bale and Christian Eriksen look quite good with 3 reasonable goals between them. Could take over from O.G. as next best scorer.

  • PompeyYid says:

    I read this earlier….
Harry Kane is just 1 missed goal away from a new record to add to his collection.

Length of time of None Scoring from Freekicks record..
Since scoring from a Freekick in 2014 he has gone 53 attempts without scoring, just 1 less than Jay-Jay Okocha at 54 lol!

Either forget taking them or NEEDS to TRY HARDER lol!

  • Niall D says:

This is what gets to me at this level, we aren’t talking Wolverhampton and Bromwich District league here. We have analystist, psychotherapists, tactical philosophers I’m sure at our club.
What I’ve said and been banging on about most of this, season is that at this level, it is very small margins which win, or lose games.
And Harry for all his good points, and there are many, can’t take free kicks, my head is in my hands every time he places the ball.
So surely someone one some where at our club at this level, shoud take Harry aside and actually say to him, “look you can’t hit a barn door, there are times when you can’t even reach the barn door”
Just leave free kicks to someone, in fact anyone else,.
But I do think a wee bit of ol arrys ego creeps in and he wants another goal.
We need some time spent on set pieces, free kicks etc, rather than what appears, a hurried discussion between Kane and Dier as to who is the least worse option.

  • jod says:

Niall D – No arguments, Harry can’t take a free kick. But is there anyone in our team who can take a free kick or a corner ? As someone who watched Gascoigne banging free kicks into the back of the net with both feet and hitting corners like missiles the inability of our current squad in this regard is painful.

  • Niall D says:

    Jod
I’ll refer you to my previous Coutinho statement, plus theres this guy Bale?? And another Ericksen?? Whom I think can hit the odd worldie.
Two of these three were available in January.
I don’t have the answer, who is “currently at the club but I did have the knowledge to know it is an issue and that there were those out there.

  • jod says:

Niall D – You don’t sign someone just to take free kicks and corners, its not American football where you can wheel someone on then take them off again once the they’ve taken the kick. That’s the problem, you want someone who fits into a Conte team, which has a pretty specific way of playing and demands a high work rate from everyone, who is also good in dead ball situations. Its not actually that easy.

  • wentworth says:

Both Bale and Eriksen are better than what we’ve got in many aspects of their play. Eriksen can pass brilliantly, take set pieces and score from outside the box. Bale is the same. We only have Kane, Son and O.G. to score for us.

  • Niall D says:

    Agree to a degree Jod.
Ericksen was in Contes’ previous team, so should know his methods, as WW says the players I mentioned are currently better than what we have, given Bale was among our top goal scorers even in the limited minutes, given to him by Mourinho.
Would I have him rather than say Bergs or Lucas,
    you bet.
But I do take your point, would Bale actually have the work rate coming back to be a Conte player.
I do think he (Bale) threw Doherty under the bus a couple of times during games resting on his laurels.
There are good arguments for both sides of this coin, is Ericksen still a risk and is he a step backwards, does Bale have it in the tank to play Conte’s style of game, is he too injury prone.
On the other hand Ericksen and Bale on their day are game changers who can take the game by the scruff of the neck, score free kicks hit a worldie now, and again.
Would be be a decent player to use sparingly, I think so.
But I suppose it is subjective depending on which way you look at it.

  • jod says:

Niall D – Its not really a debate, its either Conte’s way or the highway for as long as he’s in charge. What the fans think doesn’t really matter, but then that’s why you appoint a manager. The problem comes when that manager leaves and someone else comes in with a completely different approach.
