Match Thread – Spurs Look To Burst West Ham’s Bubble

|

After the disappointing defeat to Manchester United on Saturday afternoon, Tottenham Hotspur got back on the proverbial horse in Wednesday’s midweek clash with Brighton and Hove Albion and although it wasn’t the greatest of games, it was a dominant enough performance to see us pick up all three points following goals from Cristian Romero and Harry Kane to give us a 2-0 victory at the Amex Stadium – whilst also denying the home side a single shot on target.

On paper, Brighton were always going to be tough but it always should’ve been a Spurs win, however, Sunday’s fixture against the bubble blowing West Ham United will be a different kettle of fish.

David Moyes’ side are again having an unexpectedly good season sat in sixth place in the table, level on points with us but we do, of course, have a game in hand on them. Hopefully in an effort to come back from a one goal deficit against Sevilla – well putting it bluntly – they’ll be cream crackered and we can take full advantage of that given their current injury problems.

But again, if we’ve learnt one thing about Spurs this year – it’s that we are Spurs and the only guarantee occurs at the final whistle.

West Ham

Win

Draw

Lose

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

If you look at the rest of the season from a West Ham viewpoint then really how important is this game to them ? That fourth place doesn’t look likely but they are in the quarter finals of the Europa. So win three games and they lift the trophy and get a place in the champions league regardless of where they finish in the league. Do they play out the season Spurs style, play your strongest team every game and tell everyone how unlucky you are when tired players are knocked out of Europe. Or will Moyes pick his battles and focus on the Europa. We’ll find out when we see his team selection for Sunday.

I really don’t care what team Westham put out, Strongest or weakest 11 doesn’t concern me.
As long as we beat what ever they put on the pitch.
And we can beat their best 11.
I don’t want to be 80 mins into a game 3-0 up and they have the best 10 minutes ever (remember that), we are a different side than that which faced them last time out and they just scraped a win, I feel we are a better side now, we certainly have no distractions.
    Hoping for a good win.
    COYS.

  • Niall D says:

I note with some interest that, both Rennes and Vitesse gave a decent account of themselves in the ECL, both being just edged out by Leicester and Roma, perhaps they weren’t the pushover we thought. 🤔

  • block 108 spurs says:

Niall yes i remember that game… West ham fans (and some players) look at their spurs games like a cup final so maximum effort to final whistle hence their 3 goals in 10 mins, in that game.

Now we have an advantage in conte and players working on game plan at enfield while west ham away in spain at a Euro League game. So as HK10 says players are with conte and are up for wining games !! COYS

  • PompeyYid says:

Sunday game v Wet Spam is their 2nd cup final that is played every season.

They will be up for it, but the main question is…will we be? I bloody hope so!

    Fair questions…
Which Spurs team will turn up on Sunday?

Is this a game that Harry K will turn up for?

Will our sequence carry on LWLWLWLW? if so a L is on the cards, break it lads.

A lady singer who suffered with a lisp once sung…”Its a Mystery” truly apt for our current Spurs team.

Am going for a win, like I always do, cannot break a habit of lifetime Spurs fan. COYS

  • Niall D says:

I posted this earlier but must have got lost in the ether, gremlins or some such.
I noted with a little interest that both Rennes and Vitesse were “just” beaten by Leicester and a very lucky Roma, so perhaps we were in a stronger qualification group than many of us thought, those two teams were no pushover.
Yes B108 good call re W/Ham they do give it all against us however its usually us who have been all over Europe playing them on Sunday, so we’ll see how it goes.
I’m with PY here and hope we break our consistency” thingy “with a win.
    COYS.

  • 123spurs says:

No niall stop making excuses for our failure in 3rd tier of European football.

  • Niall D says:

    Well 123
First thing which sort of backs my assumption is that neither of these two teams were actually “hammered 5-0 anything by either Leicester or Roma in fact Roma just bagged qualification in the very last minute. In fact there was a goal in it in both contests.
The other” excuse “as you call it is, actually that we were excluded from competing and we weren’t put out, so we don’t know how we’ll we would have done had we been allowed to play.
BTW it’s a 3rd tier comp in which I agree, and I wanted our second stream to play, which in some games they did, Im just thinking they did a better account of themselves, than perhaps many of us initially thought, but not you chum.
    So yes m8 making excuses
BTW are you a Spurs supporter???? 🤔
Coz lately you actually don’t sound it.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Tottenham Hotspur 5-0 West Ham United!

  • Allan says:

It looks as if we might do the usual thing of allowing a forward who hasn’t , I believe, scored many goals bagging a few against us in the name of Antonio .
Over the past couple of years he has been quite influential in their performances by bullying our defence , Will Romeo try strong tactics against him and earn another booking of worse ?
If we can control him and with Bowen out we are in with a chance .
I have every expectation but it’s West ham .

  • Geofspurs says:

I must be feeling optimistic …. I’ll go with HT’s prediction on this one.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

They will need to hang their heads in shame if they allow Wham to out run them in the distance stats, their best available starting eleven pretty much all played 120 minutes on Thursday.

  • Geofspurs says:

ND …. Hope you’re feelingb better. A win tonight will make us all feel better!

  • Geofspurs says:

Danny …. The photo on this thread might be a nicer ‘Home Page’ photo? Just saying …. lol

  • PompeyYid says:

Lets go today…..Wham Bam thankyou Mam! COYS

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Romero odds on to get sent off for another of his reckless challenges. Spurs poor at defending set pieces. West Ham great at set pieces. West Ham bouncing after Thursday night. Spurs due a defeat to continue the W/L/W sequence.
Or it could be that the Harry Kane team has a great day and Spurs win. Who knows, who even cares anymore? Come on you Spurs

    • 123spurs says:

Are we up for their cup final.
Are we up for the fight.

      • wentworth says:

Sensational Son and Kane. Great stuff. Also Bentancur and Kulusevski. Good signings so we can build on next season. Terrific first half then we finished it off. I’m a happy sourpuss. Much more the Spurs way.

  • 123spurs says:

Did we burst some bubbles today

  • Spurfect One says:

The difference Bentacur and Kulusevski have made is clear to see. Imagine if we had Moura and Winks still starting!

  • block 108 spurs says:

A good performance again… and 3 points we needed. Sonny and hk10 are the best forward strikers combination in PL and if not the world. With conte new signings settling in well, and glad to see romero no yellow card this game 🙂 we are in 5th place and the crunch game is gooners, we must beat. I hope (as always) spurs keep their confidence and a winning run to end of the season is possible, and 4th place in the league. COYS

  • PompeyYid says:

Simple “what a performance!” “it was Wham Bam thankyou Spam”

Controlled the game, majority of passes went where they should.

    Everybody worked hard.

Bents ruled the midfield, long time since a spurs player has done that!

Kulu, excellent, 2 very good signings, now for new signings in the STW of the same vein.

Sad thing is another bloody International break, just hope all ours come back injury free.
