‘Very good riddance’ – Many Spurs fans react to reports Mourinho backroom ally wants out

|

Many Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been reacting on social media to reports by Duncan Castle for the Daily Record, claiming Ricardo Formosinho wishes to leave the north London outfit this summer.

Formosinho has long been an ally of Spurs boss Jose Mourinho, having worked alongside the Portuguese tactician as part of his backroom staff since 2016 following Mourinho’s appointment as the then-new Manchester United head coach.

Mourinho named Formosinho as the Red Devils’ Senior Technical Scout and later brought the 63-year-old Setubal native with him to Tottenham by appointing him as a tactical analyst, having previously worked alongside each other at FC Porto and at Real Madrid where Formosinho worked as part of the scouting department.

Formosinho now wishes to branch off on his own ahead of the 2020/21 campaign and has requested that Tottenham release him from his contract this month.

News of Formosinho requesting to be released from his contract has seen Spurs fans shoot to social media, with many more than happy to see the Mourinho-ally leave north London on the basis of the performances seen since the pair’s arrival.

Tottenham have won 13 of the 31 matches played under Mourinho across all competitions, losing 11 and drawing a further seven with a goal difference of plus four after striking home 49 times to the 45 goals conceded.

Here are a selection of the messages shared from Spurs fans open to Formosinho’s exit…

Formosinho is not the only member of Mourinho’s backroom staff some Spurs fans would be happy to see leave the club, either, with one supporter suggesting the medical team and recruitment department also need to be assessed.

A few Tottenham supporters would even be open to Mourinho leaving the club inside eight months of his arrival as the successor to Mauricio Pochettino, given the Portuguese coach’s tenure has only seen Spurs climb from 14th in the Premier League table to ninth ahead of Sunday’s North London Derby with eighth-placed Arsenal.

Too many back passes in our own half allowing the opposition to regroup and organize their defence.
Very few crosses by Aurier into the box..
    Son in no man’s land.
We need creative mid fielders who would supply to Kane.
