Transfer News: Tottenham one of a number clubs monitoring the Championship’s best young player

|

Tottenham supporters have had a lot of time to think about what they need in the January transfer window, and whilst so often fans can never agree on what’s best for their club, at Spurs, it’s pretty well known that the Lilywhites are desperate for some defensive reinforcements.

That’s where the recent transfer rumours are coming in, as Jose Mourinho’s side are reportedly monitoring Leeds’ young on-loan defender Ben White. The 22-year-old is at Elland Road on a temporary basis from his parent club Brighton, and he’s playing incredibly well.

The youngster was recently voted as the best young player in the Championship by Sky Sports, swooping up 29% of the 37,692 votes that were cast. With that much making it clear that the young defender is a top player, the recent interest from Spurs, documented by Sky Sports, is worth getting excited about.

It must be said that Spurs aren’t the only side interested in the 22-year-old. The article also talks of Liverpool and Chelsea interest in the player, although it’s claimed that Liverpool aren’t expected to follow up on their interest.

If any deal does go ahead, it’s not one where White will come into the Spurs side anytime soon. There is no break clause in White’s loan deal from The Amex to Elland Road so if Spurs sign White from Brighton he will likely remain on-loan at Leeds until the summer anyway.

Will Mourinho fix the defence?

Yes

No

Getting in a young defender does look to be what is needed at Tottenham. Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are both the wrong side of their 30s now, and whilst the pair both have bags of talent, getting some youngsters in now to grow and take the places of the Belgians looks to be key, and Ben White could do just that.
