Three Spurs players depart on deadline day

|

While many fans were hoping for more signings on Deadline Day yesterday, Spurs did have an eventful end to the transfer window after announcing the arrival of Emerson Royal from Barcelona for Β£22 million.

His arrival marked the end of Serge Aurier’s four year stint at Tottenham, and with just one year remaining on his contract, both parties decided to mutually terminate the Ivorian’s deal as no club was interested in signing him before the end of the deadline.

The decision means that he can find a new club even now the transfer window has closed, and it’s a smart decision from Spurs as his Β£70K a week salary has now been removed off the wage budget and the club will no longer have to pay that to someone who would have been the team’s fourth choice right-back.

Meanwhile, the other player who was expected to move permanently was USA international Cameron Carter-Vickers, who has completed a loan move to Scottish giants Celtic as the interested clubs weren’t able to offer a fair fee for the defender.

Carter-Vickers will now have one last opportunity to prove his talent, and he will be doing so while also playing in the Europa League.

Young forward J’Neil Bennett also left temporarily as he joined League One side Crewe Alexandra, who are in desperate need of goals and creativity.

It provides him with a chance to showcase the ability he has displayed all the way through the youth levels, on a senior stage.
