Player Ratings: Brentford 2-2 Spurs

|

After six weeks without seeing the Lilywhites in action, Antonio Conte’s men treated us to a typical Spurs performance – coming from 2-0 down to scrape a 2-2 draw. This is how the players ranked:

Manager Rating- 6

Conte did not have a full squad to choose from, with many players struggling with injury following the Qatar World Cup. But his decision to put Japhet Tanganga at centre-back seemed slightly odd – with the 23-year-old not having started a single game all season.

Fraser Forster- 6

The Englishman deputised for Hugo Lloris today, with the Frenchman only having recently returned from international action for France. Forster done his job in-between the sticks today and could not be blamed for Brentford’s two goals today.

Matt Doherty- 5

Doherty did not really provide much in the defensive third of the pitch but he did have some bright moments in the final third, linking up well with Dejan Kulusevski down the right hand side. However, his final ball did let him down a few times this afternoon.

Japhet Tanganga – 3

Sadly for the youngster I think it is now very clear he is now not up to the level of Spurs. Out battled and out smarted all game – Toney and Mbuemo gave him a torrid time. The 23-year-old was also very poor on the ball with a number of passes going estray. Cannot see him returning to the starting line-up for a while.

Eric Dier- 4

Was another tough afternoon for Dier today, constantly having to deal with Brentford’s aerial bombardment. His afternoon was made worse by the fact he was at fault for the second goal, with his wayward clearance leading to the corner for Toney’s goal

Clement Lenglet- 5

Struggled today against Brentford’s physical forwards but did add some quality in the final third late on – setting up Harry Kane for Tottenham’s first, providing a beautiful looping cross for the England skipper

Ivan Perisic- 7

Tottenham’s best player by a country mile today, constantly battling and fighting all afternoon. The Croatian also provided some much needed quality in the final third, beating his man and delivering multiple times, during the game. Perisic’s performance was made even more impressive by the fact he had only returned from the World Cup less than 9 days ago.

Pierre Emile Hojbjerg- 6

Another goal for the Dane today – taking his total to four for the season. His equaliser was a very calm finish despite the circumstances. He did however struggle to impact the game in the first-half like many of the Spurs players.

Yves Bissouma- 4

Woeful performance from the Malian. His touch and passing was off all game, only really started to impact the game once Spurs had equalised. Massive improvement needed from the midfielder.

Dejan Kulusevski- 6

The Swede struggled to really stamp his impact on the game but when he eventually did, he smartly set up Hojbjerg for the equaliser. He was marshalled well by Rico Henry, often being closed down by multiple Brentford players as soon as he got the ball.

Heung-Min Son- 6

Despite having a few efforts saved by Raya in the Brentford net, Son flattered to deceive most of the afternoon with his touch and passing letting down numerous times.

Harry Kane- 6

The England skipper was kept quiet until his fantastic header late on. He grew into the game like many of the Spurs players but he will be glad to be back on the goal train after his World Cup heartbreak.
