Team News: Tottenham without three players ahead of Man City clash, striker could return

|

Tottenham will be without three players for Tuesday evening’s Champions League clash with Manchester City – Serge Aurier (hamstring), Eric Dier (hip flexor), Erik Lamela (hamstring). Fernando Llorente could make the matchday squad, however, with the Spaniard returning to training in the week after suffering concussion.

Mauricio Pochettino has called upon Aurier for the majority of Spurs’ Champions League games, but his injury means Kieran Tripper should start at right-back with Kyle Walker-Peters providing cover on the bench. Dier has hardly featured in 2019 so his absence isn’t a fresh blow. Moussa Sissoko, Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks will be vying to start in his place.

Lamela has played in every Champions League game this season, contributing three goals for his troubles, so his absence will be felt. Pochettino will miss the energy Lamela brings to the side, so he’ll have a decision to make on who can replace him. Christian Eriksen, Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura are options, but playing wing-backs is also possible.

Tottenham come into their clash with City off the back of a 2-0 home win against Crystal Palace, but they’ll have a much bigger test from Pep Guardiola’s men.
