Tottenham have confirmed that Serge Aurier ‘will miss out’ against Manchester City on Tuesday evening as he’s struggling with a hamstring injury. The 26-year-old hasn’t featured in any competition since Spurs’ 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.
Aurier has been sidelined for more than a month, missing league games against Southampton, Liverpool and Crystal Palace, but the club did confirm he’s continuing on-pitch rehabilitation which means his return may not be too far away.
Kieran Trippier should start at right-back for the Champions League quarter-final outing with Kyle Walker-Peters providing cover on the bench. Aurier’s had a disappointing season due to injuries and inconsistent form, but he’s been a regular in Europe under Mauricio Pochettino.
The Ivorian international has featured in five of Tottenham’s eight Champions League games this season, playing a full 90 minutes in both last-16 games against Dortmund. He’s struggled for opportunities in the Premier League, however, racking up only 563 minutes of Premier League football.
Aurier has made a total of 17 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating five goals. His future at Tottenham is uncertain due to a lack of overall playing time, but Pochettino’s immediate focus will be on Europe.
