Predicted: Pochettino to drop left-back, central defender could start, Englishman to return

|

Ahead of Tuesday evening’s Champions League clash with Manchester City, Mauricio Pochettino could make three changes to the Tottenham side that beat Crystal Palace 2-0 on Wednesday.

Tottenham should line up in a typical 3-4-1-2 formation with wing-backs, as getting the ball from back to front in a speedy manner could be key to beating Manchester City.

Davinson Sanchez has been a regular in Europe and was rested against Palace in preparation for their quarter-final outing. He should start alongside Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld in a three-man defence.

Danny Rose started in Wednesday’s win over the Eagles, but he could lose his place in the side as Davies has been preferred at left wing-back. Kieran Tripper should start at right wing-back as Serge Aurier is injured.

Dele Alli should start in midfield ahead of Harry Winks. Alli missed both last-16 games against Borussia Dortmund but has been a regular in the Premier League in recent weeks. Winks has been short of playing time due to injury.

Moussa Sissoko should start alongside Alli as he’s started Spurs’ last four Champions League games and has missed only one league outing in the last seven months. Christian Eriksen will likely be in an attacking-midfield role behind the two strikers.

Harry Kane and Heung-min Son have partnered each other up front for weeks and should start in attack against City. Son’s pace will be key for Tottenham hitting the Sky Blues on the counter while Kane’s marksmanship will be key in a game that may have limited chances – he’s scored five goals in his last six Champions League games.

Tottenham’s predicted XI vs Manchester City (3-4-1-2): Hugo Lloris; Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez; Ben Davies, Dele Alli, Moussa Sissoko, Kieran Trippier; Christian Eriksen; Harry Kane, Heung-min Son.
