Official: Another injury blow for Tottenham against Man City, wide-man ‘will miss out’

|

Tottenham confirm that Erik Lamela ‘will miss out’ against Manchester City in the first leg of tonight’s Champions League quarter-final clash, joining Serge Aurier on the treatment table. The 27-year-old has a hamstring injury and is currently undergoing on-pitch rehabilitation. Lamela has been out of action since early-March but his return date is unknown.

The Argentinean international has made 31 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham this season, scoring and creating nine goals. Lamela has made only 13 starts, however – eight in the Premier League, three in the Champions League and two in the EFL Cup – amassing 1464 minutes of overall playing time.

The wide-man has struggled with injuries ever since he joined from AS Roma in 2013, and his latest setback will see him miss Spurs’ biggest game of the season. Lamela had been a regular in Europe, featuring in every Champions League game in 2018/19, so his absence is a blow for Mauricio Pochettino.

His last outing was against Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash, but he’ll be forced to watch on at Tottenham Hotspur stadium as his teammates go toe-to-toe with Pep Guardiola’s men. Spurs travel to face Manchester City for the second leg on April 17.
