Official: Eric Dier injury update

|

Tottenham have confirmed that Eric Dier ‘remains sidelined’ with injury ahead of Tuesday evening’s Champions League clash with Manchester City, joining Serge Aurier and Erik Lamela on the treatment table. Dier is suffering with a hip flexor injury and is undergoing on-pitch rehabilitation, but his return date is unknown.

The 25-year-old has been out of action since early-March, missing Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat at Liverpool (March 31) and 2-0 win over Crystal Palace (April 3). He’s endured an injury-hit 2019, making only three Premier League appearances and one in the Champions League since the turn of the year. Dier has made a total of 23 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals.

The England international was a regular at the heart of the midfield for the first-half of the season but has since struggled with injuries which have limited his playing time. If fully fit, Dier would have likely started against Manchester City to help nullify their threat from midfield, but Mauricio Pochettino will make a decision on Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks and Victor Wanyama.

Tottenham travel to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash on April 17.
