Spurs set for meeting with Serie A side

After this morning’s news from Italy that Nicolo Zaniolo’s agent would potentially be flying into London for further talks with Tottenham Hotspur regarding a transfer for his client, the latest reports around Zaniolo have made several revelations regarding his future.

The first comes from the Evening Standard, in which Roma manager Jose Mourinho confirmed that Zaniolo wanted to leave, but that his departure would be on the club’s terms. At the same time, the former Spurs boss voiced his doubts that Zaniolo would depart prior to January’s deadline next week, due to the failure of interested parties to meet Roma’s asking price for the 23-year-old, which stands at around £30 million:

“Nicoló Zaniolo has asked to leave the club — but it’s not sure that it’s gonna happen,” Mourinho said (as per the Evening Standard).

“Current proposals are not enough.”

“We only need a good proposal to let Zaniolo leave, and we’ve not received it. My feeling is that at the end, he will stay.”

It has been reported further by Football Insider (so take this with a pinch of salt) that, in order to drive the price of Zaniolo down, Spurs have offered Roma a choice of three players in part-exchange for the Italian, one of which being Bryan Gil. It is unclear who the other two are, and it is unclear that Roma would even entertain this notion, due to their insistence on a guarantee of cash for Zaniolo’s sale.

The final bit of news regarding this pursuit comes from respected Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, who states that there will be a meeting between the two clubs to attempt to bridge the clubs’ current gap in their valuation of the player, so we’ll see how it all plays out soon enough, one should imagine.
