Spurs target in talks with Serie A clubs

|

Over the weekend, reports have emerged that long-running Tottenham Hotspur target and soon-to-be free agent Adama Traore of Wolverhampton Wanderers has been in talks with Serie A sides Atalanta and Napoli, with a view to registering a pre-contract agreement with one of the sides ahead of a free transfer in the summer (courtesy of 90 Min).

The 90 Min report states that, although Spurs retain an interest in the 26-year-old Spaniard, Traore’s preference is to engage in discussions who would deploy him further up the pitch as a winger, making him less keen to engage in dialogue with Spurs due to Antonio Conte’s potential to deploy him at wing-back were he to make the move to Hotspur Way.

When questioned about Traore’s future, Wolves manager Julen LopeteguiĀ  gave a very vague answer that did not really illuminate the situation, but praised the player’s commitment to the Molineux outfit despite the expiration of his contract in 6 months’ time (quotes via 90 Min):

“We have talked about this, he is our player and we are happy with him. This is all.

“His commitment is fantastic, sure.”

Lopetegui continued to praise his compatriot: “Adama is one player that has one specific condition and quality. He has to be able to take advantage of this condition, of course.

“We have to help him to understand and put the right situation on the pitch to help him.”

Having missed out on Traore last January when he opted to rejoin his hometown club Barcelona, it looks as though the Spaniard may not be heading to Spurs after all…
