Spurs At The European Championships Thread

|

After a long, hard and ultimately disappointing season for Tottenham Hotspur, we have a busy summer in store now as we look to both sort out our managerial situation as well as strengthen the group via the transfer market – as massive question being Harry Kane’s own future.

Whilst we’ll hopefully have our new manager in within a few weeks (or maybe our old manager given the Mauricio Pochettino rumours) it’s unlikely much will happen on a transfer front until we see the culmination of this summers European Championship competition.

In a world still dealing with Covid, personally, I think international football is slightly ridiculous at this moment in time, but money makes the world go round doesn’t it – Spurs fans will however have a natural interest in the tournament given the players and former players that should be on show.

If nothing else it’ll be a distraction for a few weeks – so anything Euro related can go in here VSers.

I thought Kane had a good game (he really does make football look so easy) but I’m finding it difficult to get excited about the national team at the moment.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Looks like it’s going to be Conte then.

  • 123spurs says:

    A statement of intent.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

He’s probably going to ruffle some feathers but it will weed out those that aren’t good enough or have the wrong attitude. Just hope we can back him sufficiently to improve in the areas were this is clearly needed.

  • Niall D says:

I just hope it’s the right choice, he does have a history of bringing teams from mediocre to winners, a bit more Jose than Poch and a bit more Poch than Jose.
I think the Poch scenario was just that, as someone said the rumour of him returning would assist in season ticket sale for us plus it would give Poch more leverage in his PSG career, win win for both.
I will support Conte if he comes, just hope he is given support to “import/export” players he wants, with no absolutely “no” input from Levey.
In a strange way looking forward to next season.

  • TK says:

Conte is going to be better than was Mourinho. This alone is worth celebration. He does have a winning history, Fingers are crossed. Certainly happier to have Conte than Mourinho.

  • TK says:

Conte will leave in two years and Poch will arrive. Spurs to win under both. Conte in the short run and then Poch for a long time. Conte is to depressive to stay for the long haul.

  • Geofspurs says:

TK …. I have the same sense of it …. Conte to come in and get us back on track and competing at the top until, eventually, MP returns. It’s difficult to see how Conte could be any worse than Jose. It does make one feel more optimistic about next season and without optimism and hope how would supporters survive. Once again, time will tell.

Off topic… End of an era…I have declined to renew my season ticket 🙁 so after 16 yrs as a silver season ticket holder i have had enough. Also health not been 100% over the last year. But I will go to the odd game at WHL,
    when possible. COYS

  • Geofspurs says:

Sorry to hear that, B108 …. but you are right to take care of your health first.

  • block 108 spurs says:

Geof… as I am approaching my 70th birthday makes me a senior… and a lifelong spurs fan, its time to stand back and the younger fans continue the stadium support. I hope to be travelling to see family in Perth / sidney OZ as when covid pandemic quarantine allows. Ive been to your part of oz mandurah (spelling ?) before. Also been to a few Glory games at Perth … 🙂

  • Niall D says:

B108, look after yourself m8, just get back to good health.
Go to the games when you feel like it, it’s enough.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

block 108 – like you I have not renewed my season ticket. I have kept a membership though which gives me priority booking for games, somehow I don’t think I will have a problem getting a ticket!
Regarding Conte, I believe this is no where near a done deal. Will he be convinced by Levy and will he believe that he will be backed. I some how doubt it whatever Levy has told him. The search for a new manager could rumble on. COYS

  • PompeyYid says:

block 108, so sorry to here about your health problems, am really hoping you get over it and get well soon.

Sorry to hear that you are not renewing your ST, times are a changing mate, all the best.

Regards Conte, its a two minds thing for me, not sure Yes or No, he is very much single minded and very much a Moaninio type of coach, will he get on with DL? does he believe him? are two questions to be answered, but as I said earlier “times are a changing” so its just lets wait n see. COYS

  • block 108 spurs says:

DH yes Levy is too much of a control freak. A good CEO allows his choice of senior staff to do the job he employs them for, with assistance as and when they need it. So a DoF and head coach / manager who know how to do the work needed should be allowed to get on with it. Man city an example of this.

  • block 108 spurs says:

PY, thanks… it’s just time to slow down a bit, as stress etc. not good (for anybody) the good news.. 9 yrs since my Prostate Cancer cyberknife treatment. So Im lucky really.

    • PompeyYid says:

block….that is great to hear that you are so upbeat, keep up the good fight, remember we are from the old school of battle hardness, a big thumbs up mate.

  • TK says:

block 108, you’re approaching 70, so you’re a mere babe on this site.

Welcome aboard to Geezerland, and do your self right. We’re here when you need to shake a bit of craziness out.

    Be well.

Keep adding your perspective on here,

  • TQ2Spurs says:

hey block……same vintage, mine is in September!

  • TK says:

Conte, should he really arrive, never stays anywhere for too long, and here will be the same. He can stay and improve our squad until he’s burned out on THFC–which will happen–which should be just about when Poch runs out his contract in Paris.

Perhaps the next few seasons are set. But then again, football is full of odd twists, and only a fool thinks they can seen beyond the next bend.

Keep HK and I’ll take the manager’s job. I’ll write his name down each week and ask him who else he wants me to write down.

  • TK says:

TQ2, a warm Geezer welcome to you, too. Good to infuse some relative youngsters into Geezerland.
