Report: Serie A club offer 24-year-old to Tottenham, Pochettino may avoid signing attacker

|

According to Calciomercato, Tottenham have been offered Rodrigo De Paul by Udinese. Sport Witness say the Londoners are ‘considering’ the 24-year-old but no official approach has been made. De Paul has made 91 Serie A appearances for Udinese since his 2016-move from Valencia, scoring and creating 26 goals.

The Argentine international started the season strongly, netting four goals in his first five games, but he’s only managed to score twice since mid-September. De Paul has nevertheless been a regular for Udinese and can play in a variety of roles in attack, something Mauricio Pochettino has admired in a place. Tottenham may feel they have enough options in the squad, however.

With Lucas Moura, Heung-min Son, Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela to choose from, Spurs could hold off signing de Paul. Pochettino has a more fervent need to sign a central midfielder after Mousa Dembele left to join Guangzhou R&F and due to the uncertain future of Victor Wanyama.

It’s unlikely that a new player will be signed in the January transfer window, but Tottenham may keep tabs on the 24-year-old over the summer. CIES say the Udinese forward is worth £21.7m, although his value could rise given the interest from other clubs.
