Report: Serge Aurier transfer update

|

Serge Aurier has an uncertain future at Tottenham. The 26-year-old finds himself behind Kyle Walker-Peters and Juan Foyth in the right-back pecking order and has been made available for sale by Mauricio Pochettino.

The Tottenham boss will be without Walker-Peters and Foyth ahead of Sunday’s North London derby with Arsenal, but he’d rather play Moussa Sissoko or Eric Dier at right-back instead of Aurier.

As a result, the Ivorian international may have to leave this summer to get playing time. AC Milan were keen on his signature and Aurier was believed to be open to a move to the Rossoneri, but Soccerlink say talks are at a standstill.

Selling Aurier might not be the best option given Tottenham’s lack of depth. The Lilywhites have four centre-backs in Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez and Foyth, but the latter will also be required to cover at right-back so Pochettino may still need the 26-year-old.

Nevertheless, it’s clear that Aurier is badly out of favour at Tottenham. Since his 2017-move from Paris Saint-Germain, he’s gone on to make 41 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating 10 goals. The Ivorian racked up just 563 minutes of Premier League football last season too.

There are still three days remaining before the overseas transfer window shuts, but time will tell if Milan can get a deal for Aurier over the line.
