Report: Victor Wanyama leaves Tottenham

|

According to Jackson Cole of talkSPORT, Victor Wanyama has joined Club Brugge for £10m, potentially rising to £13m. The 28-year-old has struggled for regular playing time in the last two seasons, racking up 838 minutes of Premier League football in 2017/18 and 509 in 2018/19.

Wanyama finds himself behind Tanguy Ndombele, Moussa Sissoko, Hary Winks and Eric Dier in the pecking order, having failed to make an appearance in any competition this season. The Kenyan international was in the matchday squad for Tottenham’s opener with Aston Villa but failed to come off the bench.

He was left out of the squad for the two league games that followed against Manchester City (August 17) and Newcastle United (August 25), so it’s hardly surprising that he’s been sold. Mauricio Pochettino does risk trimming the squad too much, however, and not leaving enough options in case of injury.

Wanyama may have been on the periphery with the Lilywhites, but he’s still a useful squad player. He provided cover in the engine room and can operate as a makeshift centre-back too. The 28-year-old has been granted a departure from Tottenham, but the Lilywhites don’t have a replacement lined up – a transfer policy which has reportedly drawn the ire of the players.
