Match Preview

Preview: Man City vs Spurs

|

Tottenham Hotspur travel to the Etihad Stadium tomorrow evening to take on Manchester City in a Premier League encounter initially scheduled for September 10th 2022, only for it to be postponed following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. The match kicks off at 8 PM BST, and is televised live on Sky Sports for those unable to get to the Etihad.

Both sides enter the match off the back of an indifferent run of form, with the latest episode of both sides’ turmoil coming in respective derby defeats over the weekend. While we succumbed to Arsenal, City found themselves on what they deemed to be the wrong end of an offside decision that helped Manchester United overcome them by two goals to one at Old Trafford.

However, both sides have been boosted on the injury front ahead of tomorrow’s encounter. Antonio Conte revealed yesterday that Rodrigo Bentancur is back in contention to come back into the side, while Pep Guardiola will be hoping that Ruben Dias and John Stones are able to return to the starting XI after coming through training unscathed so far.

Although Kevin de Bruyne has not trained in the build-up to the match this week, he too is expected to be available for tomorrow’s match.

For all the questions surrounding the state of both sides, both teams will be desperate to regain their poise in a bid to restart their seasons. Of course, being at home, and having the better set of players, City will be the favourites going into this one.

However, City have been the favourites going into the last two encounters between the sides, but Spurs still managed to win both of them. This included the corresponding fixture last season in which Harry Kane netted a dramatic last-minute winner back in February. That win seemed unlikely then, and a win seems unlikely now – it couldn’t possibly happen again, could it?
