Ex-Chelsea boss ‘interested’ in Spurs job

|

With all the uncertainty surrounding Antonio Conte at the moment (more on that here), many have started to link other managers with the Spurs job. Some of the names being touted at the moment are Mauricio Pochettino, Marcelo Gallardo and surprisingly Thomas Tuchel.

That is according to the Evening Standard, who claim the German would be interested in the Spurs job despite his Chelsea allegiances. Tuchel is of course unemployed at the moment after being sacked by the blues in September and he is now said to be eager for a return to management.

If Tuchel was to somehow end up as Tottenham’s manager he would carry on a recent trend that has seen a number of ex-Chelsea managers join Spurs – namely Jose Mourinho and current boss Antonio Conte.

Conte and his side are of course on a barren run of form which has seen them only pick up 6 wins out of their last 14 fixtures, currently, 14 points behind North London rivals Arsenal. Conte’s current deal is set to expire in the summer and with it looking likely that they won’t be backed in the January transfer market – Spurs could yet again be on the manager hunt.

Opinion:

As someone who can see Conte leaving in the summer, I think it would be best to stay away from the so-called ‘elite’ managers like Tuchel, as the board are clearly not going to seriously back their manager and with team clearly needs to be re-built – it may possibly be better to go with a manager who has a track record of improving and developing players rather buying ready-made ones. Managers such as Thomas Frank or Ruben Amorim would be better options in my eyes.
