Opinion: Tottenham man could leave, agent admits ‘there’s a grain of truth’ to Napoli rumours

|

Fernando Llorente is expected to leave Tottenham this summer as his contract expires in June and he’s had no offer of an extension. The 34-year-old was on the periphery during the first-half of the campaign, but he’s featured heavily in the last few months which has raised questions over his long-term future.

The player’s brother and agent, Jesus, recently spoke out about the rumours linking his client with a move to Napoli. He revealed to Radio Kiss Kiss (h/t Calciomercato): “Napoli? When there are rumours, there’s always a grain of truth. We are Juventus fans, but it would be nice to live an experience at Napoli.”

Llorente looked destined for a summer departure when he was out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino, but the Spanish international has become an important impact player and has proven he’s useful to the side. Llorente has scored and created 13 goals in 33 games in all competitions this season.

He’d made only four Premier League appearances between August and December, racking up 23 minutes of football, but he’s been a familiar face in the last few months. Llorente produced a sterling performance on Wednesday to help Tottenham reach the Champions League final, but whether that lands him a new deal remains to be seen.

The Spaniard has been linked with a return to Athletic Bilbao, Real Betis and Napoli, but his future may not be resolved until Tottenham’s season comes to an end.
