Explained: Tottenham could sign highly-rated defensive-midfielder in July, may cost £32k

|

According to The Sun, Tottenham are interested in Luca Connell and could battle Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton and Norwich City for his signature this summer. The 18-year-old is out of contract in the coming weeks and looks destined to leave Bolton Wanderers after the Championship side went into administration.

The report says that Tottenham will only have to pay a training compensation fee for Connell. According to Fieldoo’s Training

Compensation Calculator, the defensive-midfielder will cost £32k. He won’t break the bank and he could have a bright future under the right guidance. Spurs are in the market for a first-team midfield, but Connell could make a name for himself in years to come.

Transfermarkt say he’s made 12 appearances in all competitions for Wanderers, all of which have come in 2019. Bolton’s £41m debt and inevitable relegation may have worked in Connell’s favour as he was given more opportunities to impress – the club don’t have money to spend on established players.

Connell is expected to move on when his contract expires on June 30 and Tottenham will be hoping to win the race for his signature. With Mauricio Pochettino having a core of English players, many of which have improved under his tutelage, the Bolton teenager may be lured to London.
