Opinion: Tottenham flop should be on the first place to France amid transfer interest

|

This summer has seen plenty of links to players to and from Tottenham, and the latest is documenting a potential departure. According to The Sun, Serge Aurier could be set to make a late move back to France, and the Lilywhites should all be quick to get behind this one as the Ivorian offers very little.

From what we’ve seen of Aurier over the last two years since he made his £23m move from PSG to North London in summer 2017, the Ivorian defender is incredibly rash, loves a card and has very little in the way of charisma when it comes to the fans.

If he couldn’t usurp Kieran Trippier despite the Englishman’s godawful form last season then there really is something wrong, and the constant injuries are just the icing on top of a very nasty cake. It looks like the fans might finally be set to wave goodbye to the defender, though.

Even if the club would be left with just Kyle Walker-Peters and an injured Juan Foyth, letting Aurier go is still the right thing to do. The 26-year-old has only managed 41 games for the club across his two seasons, and he won’t be missed should he be poached by a Ligue 1 side.

The Sun have claimed that PSG are keen to take the 51-cap Ivorian back to the club, although they haven’t named any of the other clubs interested and have failed to specify a price, instead stating that the player can be signed ‘for the right price’.

Whoever comes in and for whatever price, Pochettino is happy to let the right-back go, and it makes you wonder if he has any replacement right-back lined up. The chances are that if Aurier leaves it will be just Walker-Peters and Foyth to hold down the fort, although the extra money would certainly help in the dying embers of the window and in January.
